Good luck to everyone hunting Southern Opener tomorrow. I struck out during bow season and am hoping to do a little better this weekend....but took all of next week off just in case.

Wear your safety harness if you're climbing a tree and wear orange! Be safe and good hunting gentlemen.

If you go out opening day, you have a death wish.  Fucking Fudds will unload on any sound or movement, even if it's a person.  Lost a buddy from high school that way

I'm on private land with 12 guys - 10 of whom I know.

I trust most of them with firearms but am on higher ground than the rest.

My area is in-between 3 farms...  And all the jackoff trigger happy lunatics push them right to me

But seriously...  First year I'm hunting with 5.45x39. So excited

Hornady vmax..  60 gr. Stuff had great ballistic gel impact so a nice lung area shot will drop bambi quick enough

Yeah nevermind the fact the 5.45 has nowhere close to the knockdown of a 308.... I chased this guy for at least a quarter mile no joke.

If you're going to shoot monsters like that, you might want to switch to a soft point or a copper hollow point. Nice deer!

Honestly I only went 5.45 because some fudd was saying it was "inhumane" to shoot a deer with a round that small and it would just wound him, and I would never take him down.

Well I did, now it's back to. 308

I double lunged a 6 point and he still ran 150 yards. All down hill. 12ga Hornady American Whitetail. First deer!

In my younger days I knew an old out-law that routinely dispatched Deer with a .22 magnum and a Mag-Lite.....not saying that right, certainly NOT legal, but I do know he did it.
I've taken several with a .223 using ordinary 55gr. Remington Cor-Loc bullets....will drop with one shot if you put it into their knogg'n or neck.
5.45 is proved to be effective as anti-personal round out several hundred meters.

Bullet did what it was supposed to. Shredded the internals. Gut pile was messy too. All exploded.

I feel like the Spetsnaz proved it's worth on soft tissue over the years, so I kinda felt like it was a great round if it was properly placed.

Spread was 16 and 1/8 BTW. Called processor and he measured for me. But as my grandpa says: Hunt for meat, not bones!"

I let a 5 pointer walk this morning even though he gave me a great shot at around 50 yards.  I'm in the 3 point restriction and he met it, but he was really small.  I took a decent size 7 pointer opening day of bow.  If I see him again, he's done.

Got a medium sized 4 point. I'm not a trophy guy by an stretch, it's all about meat in the freezer and I don't get to go out much, so I'm happy.

Got this guy at 8AM this morning in 3A, up on the ledges of a mountain.
After I shot him, I heard him fall, not far away.  I eased over there, found him and leaned rifle on a tree and peeled off some gear.  Then I heard something behind me, look and see a wide 6Pt strolling by, not a care in the world.  Maybe I just shot his competition?
Great morning on a beautiful day!

nice job guys

sadly I wasn't able to break in the 6.8 today, saw one decent buck that I would have shot but was out of range, only spotted two small doe after that.

Didn't hear nearly the same number of shots that I have the past two years

Honestly the quality of this one sucks compared to the last. Summit forgot to pack a seat with it, and the paint is peeling off like crazy. But I shot a deer out of it.
