Anyone else looking forward to Saturday to cross bow hunt? Seeing I haven't been able to use a vertical for over 10 years now I'm really pumped.

Yes, I'll be going out tomorrow.

Between a 6 month old baby and plenty of work this year, I haven't had much of a chance to shoot my real bow, so I decided not to even bother with archery season this year. I just wasnt that confident with it and I will likely only get out 2-3 mornings this entire season.

The crossbow on the other hand is very easy to get enough skill to hunt with out to reasonable distances.

This. After chasing the ducks in the morning, I can now chase the rutting swamp donkeys in the afternoons!

lol, one of your pet peeves too?

As for crossbows-I was going to but just didn't have time this year to look into what crossbows are out there and what the regs require.

5 pm last night.  We had about 2 inches of snow so it made tracking in the dark easy.  Double lunged him at 55 yards.  He ran maybe 200 yards.  Yellow tag is last years printer stock, That's all Wal-mart had.  Also got an extra DMP in the mail Saturday for 7S.

8 pointer with two broken tines.

Darton Viper SS
Black Eagle Executioner 22 inch bolts
Muzzy Trocar 100 grn broadheads.

This is probably the biggest deer we will see off our hunting lands this year.  Northern Catskills

I'll tell you what.  It was night and day difference.  Saw three bucks and one doe.  Rifle season all I ever see are does.  8 point was hot on a doe when I poked him.  He came through in the morning but wouldn't give me a broadside shot.  I sat on him with cross hairs for what felt like an hour and all I could get was front quartering and I am new to arrowing deer so I didn't want to chance it.  Came back through at 5pm messing with doe back and forth out of range.
Stepped into shooting lane and that's all she wrote

Figured I would put this question in here rather than start a new thread.  Does anyone know if crossbows are legal for ALL of bow season
if you get "medical clearance" from a doctor and apply to the DEC.  All I found in the regs was using a mechanical device to hold a LONG bow
at draw and assist with the release.  I got hurt pretty badly this year and can no longer draw my bow (My Mathews z7X.....)  I even went
to the bowshop and had it "detuned to 45 pounds but my draw is completely screwed up not to mention I shake, wobble and my anchor points are
all in the wrong place.

I would like to use a crossbow for all of archery season if its medically allowed but I cant seem to find anything on it in the Hunting Regs book or on line.

Last time I checked one had to be really f-ked up to qualify for the blow tube bow permit. But that was for the entire bow season. Fused wrist kept me from hunting archery for well over 10 years. I was happy to be able to hunt this weekend.  Lots of movement! Just not close enough so far.

I dont want to use a blow tube or hold my Mathews at draw. I want to be able to take a Ten Point Stealth SS into the stand on October 1st!

HSFL and I sat in some nasty weather today.  Didn't see any deer!  Did they get the memo that it is cold and they are supposed to be love crazed and running around willy nilly?

Yup. The landowner told that guy to leave us alone. I tried to be nice as always. Apparently we should have killed him while we had the chance.

Hunted the afternoon, sat in a thicket that is between hardwoods and a goldenrod field.  This place was criss-crossed with game trails.  Didn't see a single deer!  WTF....

Deer were few and far in between in the Filmore area , but sounds like some of you had some action - be it the two legged kind.

Pops knocked 8 point over this morning.
Same set up as me about 35 yards, mercedes benz emblem thru the heart.  He was worried that he missed becuase it didnt get up and freak out like when you shoot it with a rifle. It didnt make it 50 yards before it fell over.

Sweet!  Put up another stand for my youngest son, and we sat the afternoon.  Saw some turkey's, no deer.  AGAIN.

What are we looking at hardware wise there?

I almost bought a crossbow on a black friday impulse buy.  Looking at the regulations, the bow width needs to be 17" to be legal. I was looking at a 16, glad I held off.
Leave it to NY again and some asshole sitting behind a desk somewhere to pull a number out of his ass and fuck us as usual.

I believe that is the uncocked width

Bow was a Darton SS package he got from cabelas.

What crossbow were you looking at?

I picked up a Carbon Express off amazon that was a good deal so me and the old man don't have to play hand off.  I hope this crossbow thing is the new normal.
