If we ever make it up there, we'll have to grab a soda together. let me know when you come up, I've been looking for a new bbq place in town, in fact we were just talking about the lack of good bbq while eating mexican Will do. It's been awhile since I had good BBQ. |

I always just say it's for a rifle, but if the idiot gives me a hard time I will take out my pistol permit and show them the front (but I'll say, "sorry, I can't let you hold it, it's against the law for me to not retain possession of it"
![]() I went with a friend to Dick's and they wouldn't sell him pistol ammo. I asked the clerk if I showed him my pistol permit if he'd let my friend buy it, and he said, "sure, I don't care, I just need to see one." ![]() |

The guy at the counter wanted to see my permit tonight when I bought a box of 45Auto. I asked why? He replied its the law.
I reassured him it has nothing to do with the law, and it is store policy. A helpful fellow heard and told him the same thing. At least this guy was smart enough to just press the button and continue the sale. Again, why do we have to fight for our rights every time we do something with our "guns"?

A few times when asked if I had a pistol permit I replied.. "yeah, do you? (which always gets a puzzled look) Then you really shouldn't be touching that."
It makes them stop and wonder. |

My sgt at work just had a problem at Dicks while buying pistol ammo. Apparently Dicks wont accept LE status as an exemption to their permit requirement for buying pistol ammo. Odd policy to have, odder because LEOs can carry on their badge in NY without needing a permit. I told him he needed to stop buying from Dicks and ask me to stock what he routinely needed. |

We have had an interesting change in Watertown recently. My local Walmart recently started selling rifles and shotguns again. Prior, they had all their ammo, rifle pistol and shotgun, out on the shelves for easy grabbing. Now, they've put it all back behind the new gun counter.
Now our Gander Mountain on the other hand, has always had their pistol ammo behind the counter, and I recently went in there and saw they now have it all out on the shelves.
I thought that was an interesting switch. |

I haven't seen them at my local ones, though. |

I thought that was an interesting switch. Gander probably made the move because their pistol ammo isn't selling well. If they don't move their prices down as well, I doubt the ammo location will matter much. Meanwhile, at Walmart, it is more of a pain in the ass to buy ammo than it is to buy almost any other item in the store - yet they sell out all the time because of their pricing. |

Last time I was in Dick's which was a while ago and won't be happening again, the guy in front of me replied "It's for a rifle," for some .44 mag. The guy behind the counter then asked, "What rifle," and the customer told him, but as the clerk wasn't familiar with the model, he demanded to see a photo of said rifle in the possession of the customer. Customer whips out his phone and produces a picture of him holding the rifle, clerk looks at the photo, says, "I can't see that it says .44mag stamped on that barrel, I'm not selling this to you," and shelves the ammo.

I picked up a bulk pack of Federal 22 ammo yesterday at Wally World and the girl asked to see my pistol permit
Told her it was for a rifle and out the door I went. Stupid store policy. |

Yeppp usually if you say it's for a rifle they can't do anything, stupid policies... People who make these know nothing about guns, which is sometimes good for us!

Everything was too expensive there, but I used to go in there to handle a few shotguns and rifles, before deciding if I wanted to order them online for cheaper. been there a couple times myself before we got real wet. thieir ammo section was lame. IMHO. |

Seems to depend on what County each Walmart is in. In Onondaga Co. I've been asked for the PP (not every time) but Madison Co. never.

I'm tired of reading these threads. We all know it's a store policy, so why do we keep crying over it? If you don't like their policy, don't shop there, it's that simple. Go buy your ammo elsewhere.
