Coworker was recently telling me about the 45 he bought of gunbroker and was due to arrive. Asked where I buy ammo cheaper than GM, I replied usually walmart when they have it. I completely forgot to give him the heads up. The next day he tells me the story, has to find someone to assist him, they have to call for the keys, gets 2 boxes and asks if it's for a pistol while ringing it up, he says yes, shows them his permit which does not have a 45 listed on it yet. Guy/girl, says I can't sell it to you. He was a little irked. So I tell him to respond that it's for a rifle next time, to save the headache, and he proceeds to kick himself for not thinking of that. Goes back to the same store after adding the new colt to his permit, and buys a couple boxes. Asks the employee about not being able to purchase days before, and if he would have said it was for a rifle, the outcome. Reply was, oh yeah, they would have sold it to you...
I try to have fun with it when they ask. Say lets see, am I going to use this in the rifle, or the pistol, this box is rifle and this box is pistol, can you mark them so they don't get mixed up in the bag.... |

I don't see an issue. Fuck em, there is no law to enforce.
I bought a box of 9mm there last week and they ask me for my PP. I had it, but I told them that it isn't required and that there are rifles chambered in pistol calibers. He told me it's because of the Brady Laws. He was an intelligent fellow. ![]() |

walmart is full of fucking retards. i actually had the guy tell me he couldn't sell me ammo because the guy on the last shift took the key home.
even though i have a PP, when I buy ammo from walmart, I tell them it's for a rifle and then watch the their heads explode when the computer tells them to ask for a pistol permit.

I used to order Ranger ammo for my carry gun and nightstand gun from them, and the same from AmmunitionToGo too. |

Next time, tell them it's not even for a gun. Tell them that you're making one of those macaroni tambourines out of two glued-together paper plates, but you want to put ammo inside instead of macaroni. Their minds = blown. |

I think a lot of stores are going to this policy. Happened to me at Gander Mtn the last time I bought .45 ammo, luckily I had my permit with me.

Both Gander and Dick's ask for a PP. Sometimes I just say it's for rifle use and never have been denied. When you think about it it's not that bad of a store policy. It may keep a stolen gun from getting loaded.

As far as I know it's not a sale unless they agree to sell. They did not yet agree and you took their property without their consent.
What if you were selling a gun in the parking lot of the gun club and the guy from arfcom shows up and all your alarm bells are ringing real loud. Is it ok for him to rip the gun from your hands and toss the money on the ground and run? just playing devil's advocate. seriously my standard answer for walmat clerk was "it's for a rifle". That should also be in their computer prompt questioning. "is this for a rifle or a pistol?" if rifle, they ring you up, if you answer pistol they ask for the permit. yep, I gots a lever action .40 S&W rifle made by mattel for viet nam war. ![]() |

Everything was too expensive there, but I used to go in there to handle a few shotguns and rifles, before deciding if I wanted to order them online for cheaper. |

My walmart's are extra strict. I sometimes get denied ammo for pistols I own on my badge because I do not have a PP. The badge and ID card is not enough for a sale.

I still wonder what legal ramifications could arise, if any. I honestly wonder if the kid hit a key or something and he unknowingly answered "pistol" for the "rifle or pistol?" question on the screen, because he never asked that, and even me asking him about it didn't help. |

I don't care what antbody says, Walmart rocks the house when it comes to guns and ammo. There policy for the PP is easily skirted by replying "rifle". They reserve the right to ask and I think it's a good policy if it works for them. I bought many firearms from them when my local FFL would fiddle fuck me on shipping, taxes for transfers and the like. They will special order any legal firearm of your pleasure also. The esscort out is the best part and I for one enjoy it. It makes me feel special.

The esscort out is the best part and I for one enjoy it. It makes me feel special. They absolutely reserve the right to ask whatever they want. I wasn't implying that my rights were being inhibited by their policy. They have the right to demand to see my PP if they want ( <––hehehe), just like I have the right to buy ammo elsewhere. Life goes on. I'm just saying that I think it's a silly policy that does nothing but lose them a little money (which I'm sure a company of that size doesn't give one little shit about). |

I sent up like 4 peach cobbler pies, and what do I get? Nothing. But anyway, my buddy keeps trying to drag me up to 'Cuse to some barbecue place (not Dinosaur BBQ, but I can't think of the name). If we ever make it up there, we'll have to grab a soda together. |
