Goff's on Greenville had a burger with a hot dog sliced and blackened and  chili. Instant heartburn, but well worth it. I think they are gone now.

I agree with Mojo that nobody, but nobody beats the burger you can make on your own grille...  assuming you buy quality ingredients...

And "Rodeo Goat"?  That just sounds nasty...  where are they, DFW?  You sure you didn't mean "Gore-meat burger"?

Seriously, guys....I have heard the term 'gourmet' coined by these burger places and I don't see anything special about them.  OK...so the bun and the patty are a little bigger; some ingredients are slightly different from the other places, freshness and made-to-order are considered 'gourmet' ??..  'Gourmet' is labeled so they can justify to charge you more.
If I want a fricking tasting burger, I cook myself....And it's not even hard to do.

Rodeo Goat has what I consider gourmet burgers. Bunch of weird shit and expensive. I spent $40 on lunch for two.

Rodeo Goat is located in the 7th street "arts" district of Fort Worth along with all the uppity college frat/hipster places. Unfortunately my girlfriend is a people person and likes going to places like that.

I like What-a-burger for a decent Fast Food experience.

It is not the end all food gormea top burger ever, but of the money and time to eat, pretty tasty!

The decision to ban "open carry" worries me not bit, as I'm going to carry concealed because it makes sense...

Fatty & Snowboots will just have to go to McDonalds!!

Too bad all you guys that love Hut's in Austin so much,
don't know how to spell it.

Hut's

I've never hear of it, but it also does not appear to be a chain restaurant.

Huts is to Burgers what a steakhouse is to steak.

Devoted to the multitude of ways to enjoy finely cooked meat and extras!

I still find it humorous that all the devoted fans didn't know how to spell the name. :)

Wish I was so easily amused...  most of us can't spell for $#!+, let alone the proper name of a place.

Coming from someone who can't spell Wish or Bringer...

Five Guys - Not bad but too expensive IMO to go on a regular basis.  I'd only go there if it was the most convenient.
P.Terry's - On the smaller side and not the best but definitely the best value (cheeseburger combo is less than $6).  Reminds me of a nicer version of Short Stop.
Mighty Fine - Part of the Rudy's BBQ family, they have cleanliness and customer service down pat.  Quality food but too expensive to eat their regularly.  Their fries always seem like the bottom of the bag tiny pieces too.
Dan's - Probably my favorite.  When my grease low level light is on and I have a major burger craving nothing satisfies IMO like Dan's.  I have not been their since they remodeled.
Top Notch - Good food with more than just burgers on the menu.  I like how the new owners left the place alone and didn't try to reinvent an icon.  That's what I like about that burger joint, I get older but it stays the same.
Hut's - I work close by and eat lunch there occasionally.  Decent food.
Dirty Martin's - A great greasy burger joint with more than just burgers on the menu. I love their dirty nachos.
Fuddrucker's - I like being able to get my fixin's myself and I like their burger buns.  Plus a side of jalapeno cheese for the fries.
In-N-Out - I haven't ever tried them.  A new one is being built on S.Lamar so I will have to try it soon.
Whataburger - Good for fast food.  I love their ketchup.  In fact most other places would get bumped up a notch if they served Whataburger ketchup.

I haven't ever been to any of the "gourmet" burger places like Hopdoddy, Shake Shack, etc.  I see lines out the door at those places but I can't tell if they are that good or just hipster gathering spots.  In any case don't really care for fancy gourmet burgers and I hate having to wait in line at a restaurant.  I'd rather have a simple burger from a greasy spoon kind of place anyday.

Infocom fan?

I did not mean to offend.
I have never heard of the place, so trying to find it was made a bit difficult,
Google initially directed me to Jabba the Hutt.

You were not the only one that spelled it that way,
and life is too short to be serious all the time.

Rodeo Goat is expensive but they make a great burger....bring your appetite. I don't go often but I've never been disappointed when I have.

Not really...

No offence taken.

You've been missing out.  Best burger in downtown Austin.  When I worked downtown I used to walk all the way there and back at lunchtime from 6th and Sabine.  Hut's is a ways past S. Congress.

Google initially directed me to Jabba the Hutt.

I'm not the only one who can't spell for $#!+ I guess.

Since you're familiar with local places you mentioned, who do you think has the best burger from places you listed? All the places DogtownTom listed I've never heard of either.  And honestly with a dozen trips around Austin in last two years I don't remember seeing any of them.

Have those people just never tried another burger?

Obviously not a good one...  Whataburger may beat other big chain fast food places like McDonald's or Wendy's...  but it does not hold a candle to most of the local places around here...  Or even some of the smaller chains...

Five Guys?
P. Terry's?
Mighty Fine?
Dan's?
Top Notch?
Hutt's?

Hell, for the money even In-N-Out, although I don't think they live up to all the hype from the Californicators.

F Whataburger.  I don't plan on open carrying much if at all...  but they're either for us or against us and it looks like they picked their side.  They could have just done nothing and if nothing happened then...  guess what, nothing happened, no big deal. Instead they did something that plays right into the agendas of extremist hate groups like MDA and the Brady bunch.

By not putting up 30.06 signs?

No, by having an anti-open carry policy and allowing that policy to be leaked out to the press.

Missing from the list... I like Casino el Camino on Dirty 6th, combination of an amazing bloody plus a damn fine burger for lunch on a Sunday just seems right.  Cigar shop next door doesn't hurt the deal either.

look up the term "powered cellulose"
all the fast food places use it.
translation = wood pulp

then click the "nutrition" link and then control-f (search) you will find "powdered cellulose" listed as an ingredient to "prevent caking"

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Rudfucker's.....or did I miss it in between all the mention of huts? For a chain I think they're damn good burgers.
