The Blanco River is seven feet higher than it's ever been in recorded history.  I built a friend's house on the Blanco a few years ago in Wimberley and I'm sure it's under water now.  There's a life threatening flood wave heading down the Blanco now to San Marcos.

The good thing is the Pedernales is flooding and dumping it into Travis.

Jim Swift on KXAN News keeps saying it's an unprecedented flood of which they've never seen before.  12" of rain just got dumped in Blanco and another wave of 2" an hour is coming from Gillespie Co. that may hit Blanco Co.   Five mile Dam above San Marcos is going to be roaring at 41.5 ft. and higher projected in the next few hours.

The Blanco is about 9ft above the highest ever recorded flood level right now. Last record was 33ft in 1929 and its well north of 40' now.

LOTS of swift water rescues going on. Austin and San Antonio have sent rescue crews.

ANOTHER round in incoming with 2-4" per hour of rain.

Lake Travis now expected to be 645-648ft by later tonight.

Really?  I know they have the flood gates open at Max Starke.  After five years I can wake up tomorrow to lake front property again.

I wonder if the fishing will be as good as it was the last time the lake was full?

Onion Creek in Driftwood now at 19ft 3rd highest level on record. Round 2 for Sat/Sun yet to hit.

Edit- Up to 2nd highest flood level in Driftwood. Water will move downstream towards ABIA this morning.

Edit 2- Flood gauge on the Blanco in Wimberly has been LOST. No new data coming in. New storm is dumping 4-6" of rain per hour.

I-35 in Kyle may be closed to flood waters over on the interstate.

Yep, buying flood insurance probably sounded pretty stupid a year ago.

Hope everyone stays safe.

Lots of rain down in the San Antonio area as well.

Glad we live on a hill. Boerne and Bandera both have flooding issues.

Me too.

The Fischer store bridge over the Blanco is gone. I think that was a pretty nice bridge.

In Boerne, at Herff road and Esser, the water was four feet under the traffic lights. They spent most of the evening evacuating the houses and apartments. Mandatory Evacuation order.

I'll give you guys some insight on how a swiftwater emergency happens even though shit has been flooded for six hours:

/be from Oklahoma

/be drunk all day

/decide to hop in your beat up late 90s van and drive it home from a friend's house.

/see the first creek 3' over the road and think "hell I'll make it".

/van stalls.

/climb out the back of the van and run into the bushes to avoid The Man.

/have someone come along, see the van, and call 911.

A buddy insisted on locating his mansion and pool on the Blanco in River Mountain Ranch.  Hell, when we were building it in 96' there came a big rain and the water almost reached the slab.  It washed away a bunch of my equipment including an expensive generator that ended up in San Marcos.

This flood is bigger.  His complex must be under water.  He also had a 20 acre high fenced exotic game pen down on the river bottom. I hope the animals didn't drown.

Damn

I'm looking at neighbor's docks with boats in them that were at the water's edge yesterday that are now out in the lake. One is listing pretty bad.  I bet a bunch of those docks and boathouses laying up on the banks of the Pedernales below Hwy. 71 bridge are in Lake Travis now.

Is 12 bridge under at town square? Is cypress creek over road at town square?

I just got notice curfew goes into effect from 9-7.

I'm in San Marcos right now but there is a helicopter going into Wimberley every 10-15 min.

I wouldn't be surprised if curfew is placed... There is an amazing amount of valuable property strung along the river.... I saw 2 gun safes...

12 through Wimberley / cypress creek is open, but closed at the Blanco crossing.. That bridge was damaged but remained standing...

Can come in through Woodcreek, dripping springs or Blanco..

I lived in wimberley for several years during and after college at Southwest Texas. Wonderful little town. My grandparents old house is on the Blanco.  I'm sure the pump house/workshop is gone, but I can't imagine it climbing the backs high enough to get to the house itself. I sure hope not. Ray Wylie Hubbard lives in Wimberley. I don't think he's that far off if the river. Damn. Just damn... I still have an aunt there, but she's far enough away from the river. Prayers for my old friends still there and everyone else.

Stay safe out there NwG.
