In Brady this weekend, we saw a lot of deer and and a couple dozen turkeys. Took this dude Saturday afternoon. Mostly a bird hunter growing up, so it took me a while, but I finally got my first deer! Dropped the caped head off with H&S Taxidermy in Buda on the way back to Houston. I'm still grinning ear to ear! http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab88/kylefogle/imagejpg1_zps8a8303da.jpg View Quote A quick glance, I thought Clayton in the pic. |

Bah, 14 does under the feeder in the backyard this morning. One small buck, and gun shots all around. Probably won't have time to shoot one until this upcoming Saturday.

I haven't hunted in 30 years but have always wanted to get back into it.
Having said that, a few weeks ago I bought a compound bow and now I'm looking for a place to go. How do you find a trustworthy landowner or some place to lease that isn't already packed? |
|
[#16]
I was hunting out of a 16 ft tripod on top of a hill along a fence line. I could see 600 yards west and a little over 200 east. He came in from the east and when he showed up, several other deer that were visible stepped away into the brush. I thought he'd step into the brush shortly and took an iffy shot. I could only see him face on and shot him in the neck just under his chin. Exit was low on the neck. An inch or 2 lower and the 208 AMAX would have ruined the deer.
Shot with a suppressed 700 5r milspec in 300 wm. |

How do you find a trustworthy landowner or some place to lease that isn't already packed? View Quote I seen your thread but decided not to comment at the time. To be perfectly honest the first thing you need to do is practice, practice and then practice some more with your bow. I didn't hunt for twelve years or so but got back into it using firearms first the took up a bow several years later. I shot three hogs with it and never found them. Ironically, after another auto accident, my arm was in no shape for a bow for a couple of years so I have it up. Your blood trailing, field craft and accuracy need to be excellent when bow hunting. I suggest starting with a rifle and working your way up to a bow. As far as finding a trustworthy landowner I can't really help you. The owner of the place I hunt is a total dick. |

I made chilli meat, hamburger mixed with bacon, roasts and steaks out of the doe. I brought the buck to the taxidermist/processor for sausage hamburger and steaks along with a euro mount. I seen a few bucks last night that make my biggest buck look like a yearling. Hoping to get the biggest one tonight. |
