Will get off the porch for this one

How much you want to spend? Prego in Rice Village is pretty close. Top notch eats, but moderately expensive. There are your typical chain places at the loop near Kirby.

I'll be there on business. Usually we'll eat pretty good every night, but last year we got in one really nice semi-expensive meal. Not crazy about Italian, looking for Mexican or steaks or homestyle. Chinese is probably out too. I'll have my kids and my gf, so it has to be somewhat family friendly, but not Chunky Cheese.

Find the Perrys closest to you and order the porkchop. Legendary in Houston. Pappasitos is good.

Go way up Kirby to Goode Company BBQ. Get the spicy pork on jalepeno bread.

It's Houston Restuarant Weeks all month long. Tons of great places to check out for $35 for dinner, $20 for lunch.

On the list of participating restaurants that I've eaten at and would recommend:

  • Feast

  • 51Fifteen (in Saks but surprisingly good)

  • America's/Churrascos (Argentine steaks/South American, same owner)

  • Coppa

  • Damian's

  • Giacomo's (all Italian)

  • Glass Wall

  • Haven (best New American)

  • Hugo's (interior Mexican, not Tex-Mex)

  • Ibiza

  • Kata Robata (Japanese)

  • Mockingbird Bistro

  • Ouisie's (comfort food rich people style, venison fried steak)

  • Phillipe (Tex-French)

  • Shade

  • Straits (chain, Singapore-Malaysian-Chinese).

Bunch of good steakhouses on that list too, I would recommend: Pappas (second best in city), Flemings (same people as PF Changs but I'll forgive), Perry's out in the burbs (pork chop!).

Wife and I are going to check out Le Mistral and Artisan's next week, we're hankering for French, they both have good reviews.

Some other places to check out not participating in HRW but still worth eating:

  • Roost (one of my new favorites)

  • Underbelly

  • Hay Merchant (a gastropub... beer!)

  • Tan Tan (in Chinatown, hotpot, noodles better than my mom, Vietnamese/Chinese food, cheap)

  • Ninfa's on Navigation (not any of the other ones)

  • Luigi's Pizzeria (BYOB, cheap, gelato)

  • Piola (along with Luigi's, my two favorite pizza joints, Piola's diced tomato-mozzarella-pistachio salad is insanely good and I hate tomatoes not reduced to sauce)

  • Hubcap Grill (best burgers in town)

  • Branch Water Tavern

  • BRC (Big Red Cock)

  • Gatlin's (best BBQ in town)

  • numerous Rudy's (out in the burbs, a chain but sadly the second best BBQ, most local BBQ places suck)

  • If you can make it out to Pearland, Killen's has the best steak in the Houston area)

We hit Massa's (ok) and Guadalajara Del Centro (ok), but tonight we hit The Grove and their restaurant we specials, good stuff. Never had Wagyu beef but it was awesome, so were the appetizers and desserts.
