One of the guys in that thread called for no drinking on the beach.
Well, whenever I go to the beach the first thing I do is drink a beer. I usually have 4-6 Lone Star beers and I drink them. It does not matter if it is before 12 on sunday or before 8 in the morning . When I turn on the beach I open a beer. I for the record have never shot anyone on the beach or anywhere else.

I was all but raised on that beach. About 15-20 years ago, it got that way on 4th of July. It go so packed that the road from Galveston and LJ were both locked down with bumper to bumper traffic and no one could get on or off the island for hours. They called law enforcement from all over the county. It was around this time the family quit having holidays there. And unless there have been major changes, Surfside cops were.....lets say not people you want to have to deal with.

Past 3 miles unless you know how to drive and catch it right you need 4wd. past 8 miles you must catch it right and know how to drive without 4wd. but it is almost dead empty past 12 miles and you really need 4wd because if you get stuck down there even in fwd it will cost a lot to get out if no one come down that day. Matagorda will one day be like the rest of the beachs but for now it is fun to go down about 8 miles and beach comb and look for shells. Very few cops past 3 miles and I have never seen any past 8. You can drink a beer without fear of going to jail before 12 on sunday morning. Me and the beer dont care what day it is, you see all we know is the beach means that I drink the beer and sit in my chair and relax. I always have a gun because some wierd shit happen down on the beach from time to time. Boca Chica beach is another beach that is fun to drive. |

We go to Surfside every year for a long weekend and have never had any problems. During the day there are usually lots of other families. I think it's maybe $10 for a year pass and unlike Galveston, I can actually drop the tailgate and have a beer with my wife. My recommendations for a saturday night would be to just get off the beach after the sun sets if you see large parties forming. The idiots seem to come out after dark. On weeknights when there aren't many people around, my kids loved going down the beach shining flashlights on the little crabs coming out.
Edited to add: If any of you have recommendations on nicer family type beaches within 20 miles of Surfside, please IM me. |

The beach is considered a public roadway, so same laws apply on the sand as they do on 257, 332, 288, ect. (And Lone Star?? Only vagrants and minors drink that 😜) Back to topic at hand, that was an isolated incident... About the only time the beach gets that jam packed is on holidays(Memorial Day, 4th, ect), and even then it's mostly family's. Last holiday weekend I worked I think 6 people were arrested ALL WEEKEND. Also, this happened on the CITY beach, not the free county beach. |

Since Galveston doesn't allow Alcohol consumption Brazoria County gets all the thugs. Couldnt tell you about Matagorda as I don't work or go there.... A hint, usually most of the thugs stay on the city or paid beach... Trying staying around access 4. If you have little kids though anywhere on the beach is fine if you come early(around 9am and left before 2p) on the weekends. |

Need to correct myself, I've heard that Galveston doesn't allow drinking. Would be best to call them and find out first.

I was just wondering because we go down there every summer for 4-5 days and regularly drink on the beach. I've seen cops down there and they've never said anything but we're not out there raising hell or anything either. |
