My comments: Everyone has said that area north of Dallas needs a long range to shoot at and now we have it! Realistically, this is as close to DFW as a new 500 yard range can get. Go and shoot!

I noticed one of their rules only allows approved paper targets. What does this include?

check website. Not sure. they have some type of space age fiberboard setup that looks like foamy rubber (not the type at garland gun range).

this was not an answer but I am trying to ad firsthand knowledge but am not doing good job... at work.

I think they will let you use your paper targets, too.

So how big is "the red center"?

The opinions above are my own and do not represent any entity.

The paper targets or the steel plates?

Steel plates are 8".

I did not measure the paper target but is probably near that.

Been to the web-site. I see benches. Do you have to shoot from the benches or do they offer the option to shoot from real shooting positions?

Prone can be utilized from bench 1, or 10. Ask for them.
The 2nd Amendment is not about rights. It is about CAPABILITY. It is about ensuring the capability to respond to violence, and oppression. Not with 1 round, or 10, but with the full force of indignant violence deserved at a breach of our peace.

I didn't think to ask when I was there if they would allow position shooting with a sling(other than prone).

Not to piss on you JKW, but this was the most covinient post to reply to. They will let you shoot from any position you are safe from. Talk to the owner and give him your background/credentials, front of the line, and then prove it. Not hard. If you are F class, NRA highpower... easy. D.O.S contractors practicing today. Spend 20 dollars for one day and if you don't like it don't go back, nice place, nice people. 8" plate is all you have to hit @ 200, 300, & 400.

another great day at range. dialed in psl and hit the 200 and 300 with scope this time.

Owner now has a flag banner from fence out to mail box so you dont drive past it. This was my 3rd time there and i drove past it even though he had the banner up. Wont do that again.

Went yesterday. Great experience. I joined.
Terry is friendly, old school, helpful, strict on the rules.
I used lane 1 and shot prone.

There were some amazing shooters out with exotics, and some bench rest guns.

I brought 2 ARs ( open sights and aim point), hit the 200 m, 8 inch ringer with both. Zeroed those two at 100 and confirmed 300 m dope. Could not reliably ring the plate at 300 so I did not graduate to 400 or 500.

Brought my PSL. Rang the 200. No problem. But my 2-3 moa ammo, vert stringing, and quartering wind kept me from qualifying for 400.

I also had my Ak. It is a bullet hose. 100 m no prob. 300 m no way.

Then finally I zeroed my Rossi 1892 in 44 mag. 100 m no problem. 200 m ringer was a no go because of the wind.

Spent 3.5 hours. Bought a coke. Ate some pizza. Had a Great time.

This IS a SAFE range. It is also dedicated to hitting the target. Come out and play.

Can you back your car/truck up to the firing line? If I brought a lot of guns I hate carrying them all. This is why I used to shoot at Backwoods Traps in Little Elm - it was one of the few places with nice concrete benches that you could back your vehicle right up to.
Sorry about the mayonnaise, guys.

Any way you want to cut it you will be decanting your guns 50 - 75 feet.

I have seen others ask Terry to bring car/truck on firing line and he ok'd for load/unload. Want to clear with Terry first.

1IV -I think you are the other PSL guy out there... I was out for 4th friday in a row and it has been open for 4 weeks.

What I wrote up below from psl forum (am having scope mount issues)

went to www.topgunshootingclub.com again today to test my changes to scope mount. Am not up for typing everything that went wrong with mount. might try to go back to stock 4x posp mount. again, too much to type right now will do later.

on the very good side of the romanian psl... I had the owner (Terry) spot me while I shot at the 8 inch orange painted steel plate at 400 yards with iron sights and hungarian surplus light ball ammo. after numerous misses I hit 3 of the last 5 shots (which I think surprised Terry). You could say that I hit 3.5 or 4 times as I scraped the edge of the plate with one of the earlier rounds.

I have shot the big oxygen tanks at 450 yards with iron sights on my mausers and psl but this is the first time to hit a small target at 400.. longest previous was 300 yards at a slightly larger than a sheet of copy paper steel plate at apg before it was sold.

3 of last 5 on 8 inch steel plate at 400 yards using iron sights with fading light (I had to look thru scope and memorize where target was and then switch down to irons and feel the target)...
I was a happy man driving home

spent about an hour there, just enough to find out that I need different rings on that 10/22 and that the HandiRifle in .223 now extracts both steel & brass casings.

Liked it. Simple strict rules. Be safe. Shoot straight. No BS. I took them up on their $40 offer.

If having to hit an 8" gong to show that you're safe at a particular distance is an affront to your masculinity; then, some testosterone supplements may be required. All the riflemen that I've ever known would take this as a challenge without a blink of an eye. It is a great BS filter. Shoot or shut up.

I'm going to make that a regular Saturday afternoon run.

Talked to a friend of the owner at the Allen gun show today. He reminded me the last day for the $40 membership is tomorrow. The price will go up to $100 a year after Nov. 1st.

Was out there late yesterday with my Para FAL for a little shooting. I liked what I saw and the plans the owner has for the place. I think the 40.00 membership fee for rest of this year and 2011 was money well spent.
