My old lady often points at that place as we scream by on 642.  May have to wheel in there eventually.

I'll be looking for different places in Charleston to try. My challenge for those in the area is to find a seafood place I'll like more than Hyman's.

Oh get the fuck out of here with your Hymans seafood. That place is a straight up tourist trap. It's the worst seafood in town.

Get real seafood. Try Anson's, Magnolias, Rue De Jean, etc.

I can no longer trust anything you recommend. Hyman's? WTF!?!?

I was told to try that place when I went there years ago while in tha area for a week or so. I haven't been there often enough to try other places yet.

Haha. Sorry. Us Charlestonians take great offense to Hyman's. They are probably the most despised restaurant in Charleston. Just a terrible representation of Charleston Cuisine.  I don't understand why people who come to Charleston and then go eat at Bubba Gump's or Hyman's. Blah. LOL

I don't understand why people recommend lizard's thicket. Most of the food tastes like it's been microwaved, and I can get that pretty much anywhere in the columbia area that serves 'home cooking'.

For you Charleston folks, is Liberty Cafe still open? I think that's where I had one of the best rib eye's I've ever had that I didn't cook myself.

If I'm looking for pizza in Charleston it's gotta be Andonlini's on Wentworth hands down.

I work in Georgetown now. My hometown is a desolate wasteland of cuisine. Fast food is all we got. I like Ball & Que in Georgetown. And there's a gas station called Gene Wards on the way out of town on 521 that serves some damn good country cooking.

Also, if you're down this way during the spring and summer, there's a place called Moon Dogs. They have great hotdogs with a couple dozen available toppings, good milk shakes and good sausage dogs.

FYI the Andolini's on Wentworth closed. Do yourself a favor and try D'allesandro's next time you're downtown. It's better anyway.

I'll be heading to Charleston Tuesday to visit the squadron I'll be working with.  I thought about trying Duke's but I guess they are only open Friday and Saturday. I'm looking to spend $10 to $15 max for the meal part itself. I thought about trying Gennaro's. What are the prices like there?

If anyone is from the Philadelphia area, there is a restaurant on two notch rd. in colombia that has the real philly cheese steaks. They bring in the cheese steak meat, and amoroso rolls from philadelphia. It's the real deal. I spent 25 yrs. there.

Sorry Gennaro's has good prices on pizza - I've never eaten anything else there so I don't know about prices overall.

How did you make out?

I went to Home Team. I had the brisket sandwich with mac & cheese and baked beans there. It was good but I ended up eating some of the sandwich with a fork since it kept falling apart. The flavor of the baked beans was good. I just don't care for onion in baked beans. For sauce, I put the hot red on the sandwich. It didn't seem spicy at all. I also took home a pound of pulled pork with some home team red and sweet sauce. It was awesome and the home team red sauce seemed better than the hot red. I still have about 2/3 pound left. For a drink I had sweet tea. The stuff I drank there was good. The refill I got for the road wasn't good at all. I'm not sure what happened there.

I'd go back for sure. Hopefully I'll make it to Duke's sometime soon.

The name of the cheesestake place in colombia is" verys" going down two notch rd. just after the wicker mart, same side of the street. not too far past the mall going in the direction of the downtown area.

Those places are awesome.  You have to guess what the ingredients are and how they make it or they won't let you place an order.  I've lost a good bit of weight going to places like this.

Sounds promising, but I'd rather have my teeth pulled with an imported out of spec armorer's wrench then try to navigate down there and find a place to park.  I suppose I could take one of those rickshaw's and tell them to hot-peddle it.

Sumter: Pretty much nothing

The Backyard Restaurant located South of the city is good for steaks but they're only open on Fri. and Sat.

The Bar-B-Que Hut on south 15 (near the Piggly Wiggly) has a good buffet on Thursday and Friday lunchtime and also on friday from 5-7:30pm. Excellent fried chicken.

For all you boys on the western side of Lexington County, check out Angelo's on #1 (Priceville Rd. and #1).  There is also one in Batesburg-Leesville.  Great little italian place.

I checked out Andolini's Pizza and Red's Ice House this weekend. The pizza was good. Two slices is more than enough for a meal. The beer at Red's is way overpriced. That's just any restaurant though but it seemed worse here. The food was good and the prices didn't seem that bad. Still a fun place to hang out though.

Matt's Burgers in Summerville.

The Spousal Unit and I went there yesterday for lunch.  I had a Matt's Special, which is a cheeseburger with hot pepper cheese, a slice of ham, and bacon, dressed to order.  On the side I had a basket of their Spanish Fries.  These have onions and jalapenos fried with them.

I didn't notice anything marked "healthy heart" on the menu.

I'm there several days a week. I love the place, but I wouldn't consider it the best food around. They're getting better, though.
The bar staff are pretty solid. I'm going to see them in an hour or two.

Moving on:

Real Mexico on Bush River Rd.

Inakaya Watanabe (St. Andrews @ I-26)

And my favorite restaurant in the city, at present: Motor Supply Co.

I went to Za's pizza in Columbia today.  It was fine flavor wise. I think the only option is thin crust which is fine as long as it's crispy. For being "brick oven" pizza, it wasn't that crispy at all.

Chef Wes and I went to HS together. From what he share's with me online he is VERY particular about having fresh/local ingredients. My wife and I have been meaning to go try his place out but haven't made it yet. He just started there a few months ago but is getting great reviews.

Add these to the Charleston area.

East Bay Deli - Awesome sandwiches. Their red velvet cake is also pretty good.
Sesame Burgers and Beer - The burger I had was great. The wait times might be long at times.

Guys...if you go there I highly reccomend you use the LEFT stall.

West Columbia: Spice Junction (Indian buffet).

They're just lucky I don't live in Columbia otherwise I'd eat there every day twice a day.

Columbia: Pawley's Front Porch

The official meeting place of the SC Hometown Forum - Midlands Brigade

Irmo: Zorba's

Saturnsports brought that one up. I'm glad he did. I used to eat there quite a bit. Love it.

The thing that I like most about Motor Supply is also the thing that I like the least... the menu changes twice a day. Maybe you're down with it, maybe you're not.

We should totally have a HTF meet at the British Bulldog for those of use in the Columbia area. Particularly now that the US is out of the world cup, and we can actually get a table.
