Was reading online and saw this article. When I saw the picture I knew it - "Hey, I've been IN that residence once..."
A co-worker at a former employer of mine once called in to work, "In Jail." After talking with him I got the full story on it.
Trailer house is owned by his sister, but it's extremely run-down, the bathroom floor was rotting out from sewage leaks, etc...
His nephew was living there, and a friend of his was "crashing" there from time to time, but the nephew fled town to avoid a warrant for his arrest. While the nephew was no longer living there, his sister decided to sell it to him - purchase agreement was made, and he moved himself, daughter, and girlfriend into the vacant trialer.
He fixed up the plumbing and rotted out floor and was living there a while when the nephew returned. His sister asked him to allow the nephew to "crash" there a while as a family favor. Nephew shows up with his "friend" that crashed there from time to time. The two "crashers" quickly started getting smashed on firewater, and started threatening my co-worker, who dismissed it. Eventually they got so rowdy that he asked them to leave - they did not leave. They threatened him more, and then actually hit him. So he punched them both and kicked them out.
They came back with guns, and then proceeded to kick and punch the hell out of him. He lost consciousness, and when he woke up shortly after they were discussing what to do about his toddler and girlfriend that were hiding in the back room. He got up, tried to stop them from going down the hallway and they shoved him up against the wall. A machete was on the wall behind him and he grabbed it. Told the nephew not to come any closer and to leave, nephew came and got cleaved in the face with the machete.
The two fled and called police who arrested him, and they portrayed him as this evil killer, playing the victim - guns and drugs went out the door with them.
That's when I came in - I had a CCW, and a truck, so I offered to help him move his daughter & girlfriends' stuff out of the trailer when he was afraid they'd make good on threats and come after him. The whole thing was uneventful aside from seeing a ton of blood all over the floor near the kitchen leading to the back hallway.
Got them moved out.
By leaving they defaulted on the purchase, and had the day in court. It came out that he was acting in self defense.
The trailer went back to ownership of his sister (who is also a dealer of prescription meds she regularly steals from elderly people according to him), and her nephew and the "Friend" moved back in...
Fast forward to this year, and that "Friend" was just busted in the trailer with an obscene amount of Meth... Hence the above drug bust.
