I used to rely a bit on a good farm economy, but the problem with .Gov isn't just with "Farm Bills" and hand-outs!
The problem with .GOV is their heavy-hand involved with COMMODITIES MARKET MANIPULATION!
If they wouldn't manipulate the commodities market so damn much, SURE - FOOD WOULD COST A LOT MORE, but the farmers would be MAKING A LOT MORE $$$ in a free market economy. Instead corporate food processors, (Pillsbury / General Mills, Et al.) lobby washington to keep manipulating commodities pricing, and the farmers aren't getting paid a tangible, free-market based price for their goods. The markets would fluctuate in a more predicatble, seasonal manner, and real money could be made, real investments in agriculture ventures wouldn't come with such high risk, and the farmers would be making more money.
Also, food stamps should have NEVER come out of the AG budget...
Just get the Government out of agriculture and commodities altogether, and things would rebound a lot faster than with all this manipulation and unintended consequences.
