As early as tomorrow, a dangerous and extreme anti-gun bill is expected to be considered in committee.  House Bill 222 is a woeful violation of individuals’ right to due process in Delaware.  It is important that you contact your state Representative and immediately urge them to OPPOSE House Bill 222.

House Bill 222 would allow an individual’s family members or law enforcement to petition the court for an ex parte restraining order if they consider the individual to be a danger to themselves or others simply because the individual owns, possesses or purchases a firearm.  Under this bill, an ex parte order would be issued by a judge based solely on a brief, unsubstantiated affidavit made by a petitioner and absent any input made by the individual on which the order is targeted.  If enacted, this legislation would require the respondent to transfer or relinquish their firearms, or show proof that their firearms are inaccessible.  If requested, all firearms would be immediately seized by law-enforcement.  This legislation is ripe for abuse by individuals that disagree with the Second Amendment, and the mere insinuation that gun ownership makes you a danger to yourself or others is offensive and insulting.

Again, House Bill 222 could be considered as early as tomorrow.  Please contact your state Representative and immediately urge them to OPPOSE House Bill 222.

EDIT: Update from NRA-ILA
https://www.nraila.org/articles/20170621/delaware-anti-gun-bill-hearing-cancelled

Today, thanks to your calls and emails, the Delaware House Administration Committee cancelled its hearing on anti-gun House Bill 222.  On the same day, the House Judiciary Committee passed House Bill 232, legislation that would centralize the licensing system for concealed carry permits in Delaware.  House Bill 232 now goes to the House floor where it will await consideration.
