I have a wicked craving for some chinese food. Ive read online menus for some spots here but nothing good yet.

In Portland there was a place with awesome food and you could build your own combonations. It was called Good World Chinese, custom combinations is what I was ordered from.

Id get Sesame Chicken, Chicken Subgum Chowmein, pork fried rice and crab puffs. It was like 10 bucks and healthy portions. Plus as formentioned it super good quality.

Anything like that here Boise? With custom combinations?

I like Red Pavillion on Meridian and Overland.  Good food and really good service.

Best place in boise is Guang Zhou at edwards cinemas. The food is the best I have had, they give you a ton of it and its cheaper then going to panda express.

The generals chicken, lemon chicken and mongolian beef are my favorites. Havent tried anything out in meridan or nampa to compare, but have hit everything in boise and that is the place.

Thanks guys.
I love Panda express but is pricey and tiny nonman sized portions.

I will try both suggestions. I need my fix!

Red Pavillion is decent.

Mr Wok toward downtown is really good Korean.

Top Wok gets good reviews but is nasty and bland.

Anyplace to get bao or dim sum?

How about Filipino food? Lumpia, pancit, lechon, bangus?

So I tried out Quong Zou. It was good but not great. The portions vs price are really good though. Gonna try golden wok on chinden next.

In to find out a good chinese food place. I haven't found one yet.

Will do. Portland has some good eats.
Mostly over rated, over priced crap though. Goodworld was the BEST!

^This, big time.

if you grow up in the SF area, you're basically well spoiled on Asian cooking.  Best Chinese I've eaten here is an annual Christmas feed put on by a few Asian ladies my wife (NO pics) works with in the Idaho senate.

I have yet to find a first rate Chinese place in the greater Boise area.

OT a bit, but if you're looking for a Mexican place, Enrique's in Kuna is some of the best we've eaten, and that includes living in Texas for 15 years prior to moving here in 2002.

If you want good Chinese food, add Golden Wok to your list.  It's on Chinden in Garden City.

The farmers market in Mtn. Home would have some vendors that sold Filipino food. Really good but over priced for the amount that you got.  The Royal Singapore Air Force guys opened up a restaurant outside of Base "Shiok" and it was really good.

There used to be a weekly met up at Idaho pizza company on Fairview (I Think). It originated here on arfcom then everyone moved over to Boiseshooters, which has since slowed down. I moved away and haven't kept up with the guys except a few, I don't know if they still do the meet ups.

If you're like me and grew up very close to a city with a large ethnic Chinese community, you know what it's like to have a great Chinese meal.

Boise lacks that Chinese community, and what restaurants are here are serving Americanized crap that you can make yourself from the frozen foods section at any supermarket.  I married a native Idahoan who got exposed to real Asian food when she left for the SF bay area.  She and I eat like Chinese food like hogs when we go back to SF to see family.

Sorry, but Idaho generally is not Portland, Vancouver, San Francisco, Honolulu, etc.  DFW wasn't bad in the dim sum department either.

Midwest farm-boy transplant here, so my opinion's worth what you're paying for it:

Canton Cafe in Caldwell is our favorite.

I have yet to hear anything good about that place.  Then again, StarMex is decent, not much else is great over here.

If you want the best Mexican in the Treasure Valley, the place to go is Enrique's in Kuna.  That's coming from a family who lived in Texas for a decade and a half.

Enriques in Kuna .
