.....but you got some weird firearms laws.

Drove up to Canada for week in a time share in the country about 45 minutes from Ottowa. Enjoying the trip so far.

Have not been to Canada in along time, but some things I like about your country so far:

- your national anthem: easy to sing well, straightforward lyrics.
- your accents: clean, easy to understand that is much easier on the ears than many other accents.
- your Walmarts: no neck beards, .22LR ammo in stock, people who smell and dress nicer than in my town, no motorized scooters, staff that seem much more competent.
- your people: polite, articulate, outgoing, slim, friendly.....they are like Americans.....but nicer!
-  your roads are much smoother and better maintained, even the ones that connect towns of 9,000 people to towns of 1,300 people.  Also, your drivers seem to think that speed limits are mere suggestions, which is aGodsend when trying to cover long distances,
- your workforce: You seem to actually hire millenials and they are actually good at the  entry level retail jobs they do.

You lack sheriff departments and reserves/national guard....what is the deal with that? Don't you realize those are bullwarks of democracy?   And eliminating local municipal police departments and contracting with provincial police whose salaries must match or beat the salary contracts of your big cities is a recipe for cops who live in the city but draw big city salaries and pensions.

The  "armories" used to house your militia units but now serve as community centers.....the one in the nearby town of Renfrow will host a gunshow next week which I will be able to attend before I return to  the US.

However, just like at the Walmart and The Canadian Tire Center store...which had all kinds of .22LR and even 1,320 round cases of Romanian 7,62x39 ammo, I may not be able to buy any ammo because I lack a Firearms Acquisition License card or a Firearms Ownership License card which is required to just buy a box of ammo!

Didn't take you long to find your way around. Our firearms laws are really stupid and you can thank years of left wing government influence for that. The USA is following in our footsteps unfortunately. You must get rid of the lefties or suffer their disarmament objectives.

Thinkingof going into oOttawa today.  Anything that is  "must see" in the city?

Is there any way for a visitor to buy ammo?  Does the FAL/FOL requirement have a gun show loophole?  Are there penalties for "straw purchases" of ammo?

Is it that risky to "buy for the other guy" when it comes to ammo?    Does the card requirement apply to gun shows and private sales, too?

Hit the casino and the War Museum today.   A little ticked off with the museum.  They have free admission for Commonwealth members of the military, but not US military.  $13 plus almost a another two bucks in tax.  I get,  see a couple of exhibits, then hear that it is closing in 10 minutes.     WTF?   Why didn't they tell me that before I bought the ticket?  Then, as the usher is chasing me out, they tell me that it is open until 8pm on thursday, AND admission is freaking FREE on Thursday after 4pm!!!
Cork soakers!  Mother frockers! Sunny beaches!

From the parts I got to see---up to the 1930s, it was pretty good museum!

Had a donut at Tim Hortons. It was an apple fritter, one of the best I ever had!  Frak Dunkin Donuts!   Bring Tim Horton's to the lower 48, my man!

Don't want to exchange too much, so I use my credit card.  The Tim Hortons took a green bavck, no problem. Some CC receipts will have the exchange rate on the bottom,

So, seriously.....I'm going to have leave a neckbeard's hoard of .22LR on this side of the border?  Sitting on the shelves of the Walmart and the Canadian Tire Center mocking me with their unattainability?

If you are still in Ottawa the aviation museum is a great stop..grab some dinner in Bywards Market..I'm partial to the Heart & Crown.
As for ammo..as nice as we are..no one is going to risk their PAL by buying ammo for you.

Actually, I'm between Renfrew and Cobden.  I appreciate the advice on the aviation museum and eateries.  What do they serve at the Heart & Crown? As for the ammo....so, there ARE penalties for "straw purchases" of ammo?

Went to CFB Petwawa (soon to renamed Garrison Petawawa).  Very open base...drove in like I was driving into a housing division. No checkpoint.  Seemed pretty busy and crowded (the snow is as much a tenant on the base as any of the military units).  Was not disappointed. There were all kinds of units therer. Medical, Engineer, mech infantry, Hussars, Dragoons, MPs, Signals.....And the combined museum was pretty cool, too.  There was a wing devoted to the 1st SSF, another to the airborne, etc, (it will make rewatching the Devil's Brigade better.)  It was so sad what happened to the Airborne Battalion.

I wanted to see the vehicles up close, but there was up to 3 feet of snow surrounding the outdoor displays and I was wearing sneakers.  Fortunately, I had snow shoes in the back of the car I had borrowed from the resort.

We visited the CANEX retail store and grocery store.  They are rough equivalents to the BX/PX and Commisary but they sell to the public and not just military members.  We had lunch at Tim Horton's on the base, too.  Good soup!

afterwards, we stopped in Pembroke and one of its shopping malls,  Admired the sharp looking fatigues of the Canadian troopers, was glad to see that the mall had a movie theater and a book store.

Trying to get someone to explain the weird fascination with french fies.   What is the deal?

No weird accents, just a couple of French ones in the stores.

Haven't seen any gun stores yet.

Had another of Tim Horton's donuts...  They are addictive!  And their soups and biscuits!

Returned to the War Museum. They refunded my money after the debacle of the other day and invited me to the free admission on Thursday nights.  Excellent museum.  Three hours is not enough to see everything.

Went to the Diefenbunker Cold  War Museum.   Very cool.

I went to a chip shack that was open.  When I made my order, there were two people ahead of me, but while I waited, five more customers drove up and placed orderrs and waited in freezing temps for their fries.  Fries...that's all they served except for drinks.   What gives?  Prices were $3.25, $4.25,  $5-something, and $7-something boxes shaped like the chinese take out boxes, and condements included salt, ketchup, and ....vinegar(?)

Well, I orderred a $4.25 box, and waited for them to put hot fresh fries in it. When they did, I put salt and ketchup, and took it to my car, but before I could drive away, one of the four people in the shack chased me down, apologized for not filling the box all the way, and tookthe box backto fill it past the brim. (Canadians....they are like Americans...only better!  More polite, nicer, more considerate.)

The fries were amazing.  They were some of the best fries I have ever had!  They start with bags of pre-peeled potatoes, cut them on site, and fry them in shortening.

I find that customers and staff in grocery stores are much more polite .  People are just plain nice.

The Airborne regiment/battalion seemed to attract a bunch of bad apples in the initial post-cold war political correctness buzz saw.    Handcuffing female lieutenants to trees, white suppremacy,  putting black soldiers on a leash with"I Love the KKk" painted on his back......sheesh!
