I have a pair of nesting martins and it never fails these shitbirds show up to annoy and harass them.

I generally kill about 25-30 a year.

If it looks like I'm using him as bait, it's because I am.  He has been chirping for a mate from the neighbors magnolia for the last few days.

Bird 1 - 10.5" beard, 7/8" spurs and 21 pounds.(I think 21, killed it second day of season.)
Bird 2 - 10.5" beard, 1-1/8" & 1-1/4" spurs and 26 pounds.
Bird 3 - 9.5" beard, 7/8" spurs and 22 pounds.

Was a really good year. None of the kill hunts took more than 30 minutes.

The last hunt was the best. Afternoon hunt. Showed up two hours earlier than the turkeys had been coming into the field. Got all my junk together and started walking in. Got halfway down the hill when I spotted a hen already in the field. I side stepped into the woods and backed up about 20 yards. Started dropping the decoys and my vest when I heard the tom I was after gobble.

That changed my plans. I grabbed my gobbler decoy, assembled it and started crawling toward the field. Once the tom was in sight, I turned my head as far as I could and made a few clucks. The gobbler looked up and started strutting my way. I kept crawling towards him, varying my path, until I was 35 yards from him. I staked the decoy in the ground, raised up and dropped him.

I had seen the Primos guys do that on tv but never done it myself. I might have giggled a few times.

Kidnapping a bird to lure other birds into an ambush is some high level bird warfare shit. Thank you for your service OP. Reminds me of planting IED materials and watching, waiting for them to grow legs.

Last year I killed so many and tossed them over the fence and into the common area that some kid was walking with his dad and goes, "look at all the dead birds!"
