Just purchased a Stag Arms 8T. i live in NJ and I noticed that is came with a fixed stock with a screw in the bottom drilled and tapped in the furthest hole on the buffer tube.  Are you allow to drill and tap and new hole and put the screw back in so that the stock is a little shorter?  I am not that big of a guy and would like the overall length to be a little shorter. Any info would be great. Found this here but it is unclear if if is legal or not?

Sure.  You can re-position the stock to any length you want...  it just can't be "telescoping" - meaning adjustable on-the-fly without taking it apart.  A fixed stock is a fixed stock, regardless of length.

Overall length for rifles and shutguns must be 26 inches or greater.

If shortening the stock doesn't make it shorter than 26in, you're good to go.

Unfortunately, that won't work since Stag's "ban compliant" lowers are made with a longer receiver extension.  If you try what you're suggesting, the receiver extension will extend out through the end of the stock.
