For $150 it's like 80 cents a piece.

I'm in for $50 for one third.

if they have the original markings, and are not painted over, Id be in for at least 2/3 of a lot...maybe a whole lot...

I am in no matter what they look like.  I just need 5-10 boxes that can hold stuff.  Will help haul from Trenton if need be, live 45 minutes away.

Those are not regular ammo cans. They are gigantic. They are for holding LARGE items.
The auction won't end at $150.

Thought it was just the first item.

I know it says "with lids" but has anyone actually gone there to check.

I don't see a lid in any picture and it sure wouldn't be the 1st time GL screwed up a listing.

The adddress that is given is a house, which makes me wonder where these cans are located. Google map and see.

I found a couple closed auctions for the same cans, they went for $5.30  to $5.50 per can. Given the going rate for 50 cal cans, you could pay that and still make a few bucks on them. Don't forget the 7% sales tax AND the 10% you pay to GL.
You take the lost days pay for me its not worth touching, but id buy a few from someone here.

I am gonna put in some minimum bids and see what happens.  I am working part time so no real loss to me.  Pleas, no one else in this group bid on the lots, you will only be bringing the cost up as I intend to charge just enough to cover all costs and a day's worth of effort.

Wish us luck...

How was the recovery?

Where the lids there?

Pics?

Recovery was great, pick up was at the ammo point on McGuire AFB, having an ID and sticker made that a breeze.  2 pallets slid perfect into the M101A2 for the ride home. Looks like all the lids are there and the cans look to be in reall great shape.

Came down with a stomach bug Thursday afternoon and that  took me out til Saturday morn, just in time for my 7 year old to come down with the flu. Fun weekend.
tamiflu is unbelievable, I won't suffer the flu again without it.

I won't get to the pallets until Wednesday the earliest with the rain tomorrow and work on Tuesday.

I should have picture posted on Wednesday night.

thanks,
DD

Lol just grabbed 8 .50 cans, 8 .30 cal cans and 2 40mm cans all minty fresh, for free

Could have grabbed 100 if i could fit them all in my car. Had like 50 40mm cans and 100 556 cans and a shit load of .50 cans up for grabs at my unit. Only 3 of us wanted them. All from one day of shooting down at Dix

I edited my post, those 556 cans were 50 cans actually.

Also i had permission from a SNCO to take whatever i want but im sure it would raise flags if i starting bring trucks up to the building, hauling out ammo cans lol. Would probably require someone like the CO to authorize it.

Too bad we cant take the 1000's of LC 556, 308 and .50 brass. Thats a huge no no.

Here is a quick pic of the score:

Not sure what im going to even do with the 40mm cans. Probably wont put ammo in it, might put some sort of supplies. Hopefully in 2 weeks they will have the rest and i might grab some more just for the hell of it.

And again, only a few of us were authorized to take them. Then again we were the only ones who asked lol

Good score, I would practice some OPSEC on the how and where portion of the story. U.S. property is very seldom free to take, especially with GL getting 4-5.00 a can at auction.

Someone could get into more trouble than they know, having been a certified range officer @ Dix, those cans are required to be certified empty , with spent brass, and returned to the ammo control point prior to disposition, the disposition never included a ride in the back of a POV.

It has been my expirience that you aren't cleared (as a unit) until the spent brass and cans are turned in, at least that is the way the Army does it.

Always becareful of what you take for free, in the mid 80's we had an E-7 / WG12 AGR Tech get into alot of trouble for taking JP-4 from a fuel bowser that was used for defueling acft, he was burning it at home. CID got involved and it was a giant sh*t storm for 40.00 worth of fuel. They made an example to prove a point and it was ugly.

I'll have 30yrs this Sept. so I know of what I speak.
Just my 2 cents

Really no Opsec violation here. Everything has been cleared properly nor was anything "stolen". That was according to my CoC. Not to mention had nothing to do with Dix other than using thier range to shoot at. Either way i know what you are saying, but its a little different in this case

Long stort short though

A: I was cleared to take them.
B: I was cleared to take them.
C: I dont steal or take unless i know for a fact its ok or im authorized to do so. Ive seen quite a few NJP's and Page 11 type shit unauthorized grabs

Cans are in great shape!!!!
Rubber seals on lids, little to no rust on all, 2007 vintage. Paint and stickers on some, M.E.K. took off the spray paint over original markings on some I cleaned.

Only found one slightly dented can in the 1st 100 I unloaded.

I'll be in touch next week about pick ups, I have to work Fri-Mon this weekend.
Thanks
DD
