Cloudcroft is beautiful, but if you are not a hiker, there is not much for you to do in there, although they do have a pretty nice golf course if you are into that. There is an observatory in Sunspot, which is a little bit south of Cloudcroft. Great views of White Sands and the Organ mountains from there.

Ruidoso has lots of "touristy" stuff to do. There are several golf courses, lots of fishing, horse racing, nice restaurants and three casinos. There is a nice little shooting range (50 yard handgun range and long rifles out to 500 yards. I am a member, so I can get you in as a guest......

There is lots of old west history in the area. The town of Lincoln is all about Billy the Kid and has several museums related to him.

In Alamogordo there is also the space museum, ( I enjoyed it) , and like the other poster mentioned, white sands, I like both. I live in El Paso, but play in NM. I like to drive the mountain roads, they are not that rough and you will get your fill of sight seeing for elk, turkey and deer if your into that. Roswell is not too far, and carls bad caverns are nearby if you want to make a day trip and picnic. The caverns have an elevator so you don't have to walk too much if you don't want too.

Just some more ideas, albeit not right in Cloudcroft.

The Lodge is great.  Also, try it in the evening and watch the sun set over White Sands and the Organ Mountains.
