Artesia is ok, good people, lots of people who work their ass's off and buy neat toys to party and play with.   Worked there a bunch, but was from an office in Hobbs so we never stayed the night.  NM is mostly BLM land so lots of good places to shoot and hunt, and NM has some great hunting.   Lubbock is a couple of hours away.   As is las Cruces which is a fun town.  Not really knowing what you're into its hard to give insight.
