a few years ago i flew sw to florida and did not have any problems.
just have inside a locked box inside of your checked luggage, and make sure to declare it when you check in, and dont have ammo in the same bag. |

I just flew from FL to NM and back on SWA with a rifle and a pistol. No issues. Pistol went in a locked case in my unlocked soft side suitcase. Empty mags and a chamber flag in the barrel. Box of ammo in the case with the pistol. Declared it at the ticket counter, they looked to see it was unloaded, had me fill out and sign a firearm declaration tag and taped that to the outside of the pistol case. Did basically the same with the rifle case, but the tag went in the case. The ticket agent walked them over to the TSA guys, they scanned them, gave the agent a thumbs up and I was on my way to the gate. When I went to get my luggage, the suitcase came out on the carousel while the rifle case came out on the oversized bag area. I had to show my baggage receipt to the guy there and was on my way. Just make sure you don't use TSA locks. I went to the hardware store and bought a couple of multi-packs of Master Locks. Keep the keys with you, don't pack them. Really, I'm sure flying with a dog is a lot harder. I have flown with weapons several times and have never had any issues. Good luck.

I know I should have no issues but still nervous... MAHA |

What prevents someone else from grabbing your bag at the carousel? That's been my hesitancy...

I get pretty close to where it comes out on the conveyor and keep my eye on it until I pick mine up. |

From the time I was dropped off to when I was at the gate was about 20 min. They checked to see if they could pry the firearm case open. Other then that they didn't check anything else.

Just reading thru old threads in case anyone checks on it. I've flown all over the US with various weapons, and it's exactly as described above. Some issues I did run into, is that a few of the airlines have a restrictions on the number of rounds that can be packed. This became an issue when I was attending a carbine course, and thought I could pack my ammo needs with me. Check the various airline sites, most have detailed information. Also...I use the TSA locks as one of the carriers had specifically requested that.
Most have one of the TSA agents check the weapon to make sure it is unloaded. The only issue that I have had, was some woman in line gasping.....oh my gawd, is that a gun.....why does he have a machine gun?.....stupid bitch. As to ammo, and taking courses. I've succumbed to paying the high ammo fee's at the courses. I've done the shipping directly to the school....a couple of times ammo was late. Some other times I've tried to ship home my leftover ammo, and the local places won't ship it. Try shipping ammo from ANYONE outside of the Blackwater/XE training area...they all have signs up stating "no ammo shipped". |
