Posted: 3/22/2012 11:11:25 AM THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Time to put in your applications for big game hunts in New Mexico. Deadline is March 28th at 5:00 p.m. Anyone else rolling the dice this year? I have apps in for elk, deer, javelina, oryx and ibex. I'll also buy some lottery tickets for the Valles Caldera. Gonna do some turkey scouting next weekend and hopefully find some sheds.

Always see a lot of speed goats out there. That area is one of my favorite areas to hunt. Just haven't been there in a while. Used to run into coveys of Merriam's quail in the transition areas between foothills and mountains. That is a bird that does not like to get up and move.

Drive out to Cloud Country (a few miles past Cloudcroft) and take the state road heading South. Trust me, you will see lots of sign. ETA: The area around Bear Canyon Lake (before you get to Weed) and all the areas around the Penasco river are full of hawgs, too.
