Ok, checked it out.  Good to go.  Signed myself and the wife up for a annual membership today.  They offer some good classes, have a very nice facility and best of all was the friendliness of the staff.  Welcomed us immediately as we entered and were very kind to my wife and daughter.  Very family friendly which is important to me.

I lived in Alamogordo 2006-2008 and I frequented the La Luz Range (Sydney Paul Gordon).  One of my favorite ranges.  It was open to the public for only a few bucks for the day.  It was never busy, they always had a good stock of fresh target stands available and even had equipment to borrow for free (spotting scopes, sand bags, etc.).  Targets were "donations accepted", but I always threw in extra money because I liked the place so much and always borrowed equipment.  Also has a restroom facility on site with running hot water, which is rare for an outdoor range for so cheap.  Highly recommended for anyone in the Alamo area.

Does anybody know an empty area near Albuquerque, where I could go legally shoot some tannerite targets? I used to shoot in this arroyo out past the APD range, but last time I went a few months ago they had put up a sign.

BLM by White Mesa, west on 550 before San Isidro turn left, you need to drive in 5 or 6 miles to get to the BLM land.  Might be a bit of a hike for you depending on where in Abq you live, but plenty of good spots.

I've been there, it's a nice, clean, new facility. The people there seem to know what they are about.

I too am curious about Founders Ranch. I heard they have a sporting clays course, but haven't had much luck chasing down info or getting anyone to pick up the phone.

Carlsbad municipal range, on the truck bypass. Free, open to the public, fairly well maintained. Has many different ranges, including trap, semi private, long range and archery.
also eddy county shooting range in Artesia, it is sporting shotgun only, but a nice facility.
