Vote in Republicans.
Vote for an increase in minimum wage. |
|
I know! Fucking tell me about it. Michael's FSA friend must be pissing herself with joy.
I wonder how the alcohol issue will be decided |
|
I knew it would pass. "Free" money and all.
If we got it on the ballot to require economics in every year of school, it would fail miserably. |

Sometimes Arkansans spectacularly live up to their reputation held by the rest of the US that we are a bunch of backward, uneducated, toothless hillbillies.
Present company (mostly) excluded. |

You think we're confused... did you notice this crap in Washington State?
From Fox News (old numbers from last night): WA Initiative Measure No. 591: Prohibit government agencies from confiscating guns or other firearms from citizens without due process, or from requiring background checks on firearm recipients unless a uniform national standard is required 52% In 45% Yes 55% No Link for I-591 From Fox News (old numbers from last night): WA Initiative Measure No. 594: Apply currently used criminal and public safety background checks by licensed dealers to all firearm sales and transfers, including gun show and online sales, with specific exceptions 52% In 60% Yes 40% No Link for I-594 |

I wonder if this will get a court challenge? And if so what might the AR SC say? I could see two challenges. One from a company like McDonalds and one from someone(or more) who lost their jobs because of the increase.

Raising the Minimum Wage is a feel-good vote.
Oh, poor McWorkers, struggling to make ends meet with two illegitimate children and those 23" rims! Raise the Wage! And the one about increasing the Term Limits from 6 years to 16 years was sold as a "Pro-Term Limit Ethics Bill", so I guess voters can be forgiven for not reading the whole damn thing. |

On a similar note I see where Saline County voted against the Alcohol Amendment however the same voters in Saline county voted to legalize alcohol sales in their county. Well at least they kept it local!

I have to admit, I voted the wrong way on the term limit crap. I brought my three little girls with me (ages 2,5,and 7) to set an example about voting. I skimmed that one because the youngest was gnawing on my knee and whatnot. I wish I would have paid more attention there. I am a little shocked that there are people old enough to vote, that think raising minimum wage is a good idea......Hello $9/gal milk!

Yeah, the term limit Issue was written with an intentionally misleading ballot heading. But since both D's and R's hate term limits I guess I shouldn't be surprised that it made it to vote in that crappy condition. It will take a long time before voters en masse realize what a mistake they made. If ever.
As for the Alcohol issues, I'm comfortable with it being a county-by-county deal. Dry counties are a little old fashioned, but not terribly inconvenient for those of us who don't drink daily. |

SO FOR THE PEOPLE THAT DO DRINK OFTEN, THEY ARE SHIT OUT OF LUCK?! View Quote NO BUT THEY MIGHT HAVE TO PLAN AHEAD OR MOVE A WHOLE TEN GODDAMN MILES AWAY FOR FUCKS SAKE! God, man, get over yourself, or help change the law. Actually, looking at a map of Wet/Dry counties in Arkansas, seems a much larger portion of the state is Dry than I realized. And I still don't give a shit; their county, their rules. See, smaller government really is more responsive to the population, and that's just how I like it. |

Tyranny of the majority. Just because more people are for something than against, doesn't make it right. View Quote That is a painful reality. And the Founders knew it. The only way to 'take away' the tyranny of the majority is to divide up the initial jurisdiction into smaller ones. The only benefit to this is, the tyranny will affect a smaller group of voters or region of land. The tyranny doesn't completely disappear, but it affects a smaller sample space of Citizens.. This is the political virtue of 'local politics', and we see this model throughout the entire Constitution. The downside is, crossing a jurisdictional boundary can put one in a completely different body of law. The Feds were assigned about 4 specific duties. All other schtuff was dumped onto each State govt, and, very interestingly, the ONLY ELECTED law enforcement person in the entire political system is the COUNTY sheriff. The COUNTY is the smallest region or body of politic in the Constitution. The Founders favored "keeping it local", or at least, keeping it out of the hands of the Feds. (...and in our political system, any elected position always trumps any appointed or 'hired' person... within their realm of responsibility) Arkansas voters have stated they want each County to decide their own wet or dryness. This is not unConstitutional. Say the same for the stupid minimum wage thing. A socialistic concept (govt mandate wage...? hello???), but not unConstitutional. ....when the People discover they can vote themselves money.... |

I'm the majority though so its ok. Ah, look, MrRezister.... this is what logic looks like. "Things that are legal on this side of an imaginary line, but NOT legal on that side of it." is a pretty long list. When I cross-reference that list against "Things I care about", the sale of alcoholic beverages doesn't rank very highly. If it did, then I would do something about it, to include educating my neighbors, petitioning my lawmakers, or yes, even moving someplace that doesn't ban the sale of things I like to buy. That's what small government looks like. ETA: By "small government", I mean that we, as a state, have decided that alcohol sales are handled at the county level rather than the state level or higher. Ideally, everything that was legal "over there" would be equally legal "over here", but I have no problem with the county making that determination as opposed to that decision being made at the State or Federal level. |
