Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Des Moines resident in town for work, bring a CCW pistol?

So I'm going to be in Omaha for the next three weeks for company training. My only experience with Omaha is the zoo/Cabela's and staying in Gretna, not actual Omaha. I've lived in DC and Denver so I'm not a total hayseed when it comes to cities and ghettos.  

Anyway, it looks like you guys have a gang/murder thing going on, I'm staying in the Dodge and 72nd area. It doesn't look too dangerous according to the crime map, but some gangbanger was recently shot and killed at a gas station at 3pm along my route to work. I'm more worried about after hours safety when I'm getting dinner. Is it a part of town where you'd be carrying?

It looks like my Iowa permit is valid. Is it legal to have it loaded in the console if need be?

Carry as much as possible. Stop and robs are called that for a reason, they are a common target in Omaha. KumNGo's seem to be the most popular target lately.


There are quite a few businesses with "no guns" signs, which unfortunately does hold the power of law in NE.  
If you don't already, it may be a good idea to install at least a cheap GunVault in your trunk to put your pistol in should you encounter such a place..


If your pistol is loaded, it is considered concealed if it is in your vehicle's console.. but since you have a permit, that's just fine.
