So its cold out; why aren't we shooting? And NebraskaDizasta, get in here. I want to shoot your SCAR at this thing. View Quote I've been lurking in the shadows waiting for more details. HOPEFULLY it will be sporting a Ti can by the time this shindig kicks off. The PWS brake that came on it rattles my teeth! |

What are the chances of this not being all the way in far East Nebraska? Even if it is I might have to make a pilgrimage across the state for this!

FWIW, there is a multigun match in Louisville on 3/16. Might get better turnout if we don't schedule that day, just sayin'

I want to make it up this year, Need to get on some gear shopping done and maybe try to spruce up the 500. New shotty would be nice but I want to get addicted before I start spending to much money. Love watching and I am sure I will love shooting it. |

Yeah, just run your 500 for at least one season. Use what you have for now. Shotgun is more about how fast you can load than how fast you can shoot, anyway.

I got my stamp back for my latest Form 1 can but my stupid heater in the garage crapped out. I don't really feel like spending hours standing over a lathe in 11 degree weather.
Gotta get it finished before this shindig, though. |

When it either warms up or I buy a new heater.
I've actually build two before, a .22 and a .308. The .308 was a beast, way overbuilt. This time I'm doing another .308 but going light since I just plan to use it on a 300 blackout & a 5.56 sbr. |

If I understand silencertalk correctly no plans are needed you just need to state the caliber and length. I have never owned a lathe but I really wish I had accesses to one. If a person has a machine and tooling they can set themselves up with a really nice can for not a lot of money and have a lot of pride that they made it themselves. I hope that Alemonkey shares some build pics and I get to make it to this shoot to see how it preforms. |

Im still keeping an eye out for a deal. |

No plans are needed, you just have to specify the caliber and overall length when you submit your form. You can make it shorter than the specified length but not longer.
I'll post up some build pics after I get it all done. My lathe is just one of the crappy little Chicom benchtop models. It's not great but it works. |
|
i have two cans that i haven't shot yet. they need to be broken in!!! and i need to get my MAC upper threaded before this shin dig too... and maybe a 9mm bolt and maybe a tac-con trigger.

Have you ever thought about doing Titanium? The stuff that i have drawen up the the ti is about a half the weight od the SS. What weight are you shooting for? |
|
The tooling is what gets expensive... you can spend as much if not more on inserts and tool holder if you dont get anything when you buy the lathe. |
|
|
Isn't titanium harder to machine than stainless? I don't think my cheesy little chicom lathe could handle Ti. I'm working it pretty hard just with 300 series stainless.
I'm hoping for maybe low to mid 20 ounces this time. I don't recall the weight on my first one but it was a couple ounces heavier than a YHM Phantom. So it's a pig. Tooling and accessories get very expensive. I have about as much in that stuff as in the lathe itself. |

So what is that status of this, starting to get a little antsy here.

so, any tentative dates?
i think LPS spring break in March would be good for me. |
|
March is starting to fill up for me. The weekends of the 8th/9th and 15th/16th are busy already.
|
|
now thats not what i want to hear.
we need to pick a date or dates just to see what available. and no matter what we do, it won't work for everyone. Sundays are best for me. |
|
I'll have a three day weekend every other starting next next weekend
