Here is a map of daily lightning strikes in Alaska http://afsmaps.blm.gov/imf/imf.jsp?site=lightning

Seems still not much considering the size of our state but of course lighting is striking over 100 times every second over the Earth.

And a good thing or Alaska wouldn't have any trees left.  Look - all the trees on the slope are already gone.

They were pretty sure millers reach was started by fireworks too.  We have gotten a ton of lightning this evening between wasilla and willow with the thunderstorms rolling through.  Not hardly any rain with them though.

I don't care when I see expended bottle rockets in our yard or even on the roof every December, but I would raise hell if I found them during the summer.

One of the major concerns of the locals after the fire several years back was wether or not the fire works stand would be reopened, pretty smart bunch huh ?

Personally I don't see the appeal in fireworks in Alaska in the summer.

I can't hear anything after standing near the .50 wearing nothing but foamies.  Sweaty or not, my muffs went back on after that.

I only use fireworks in the winter but I hate freezing my ass off to do it.

Is the fireworks show near UAF getting any better?  It was so lame I stopped going some time ago.
