The Apaches are currently stationed in Illesheim, Germany, as the 3rd Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 159th Aviation Regiment and will begin their relocation to Fairbanks in September.

Once in Alaska, the battalion will reflag as the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, 25th Infantry Division.
The 24 Apache helicopters will replace the 26 0H-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopters currently stationed at Fort Wainwright. Those helicopters are part of the 6-17 Cavalry, which will be retired.

The arrival of the Apaches will be staged, with 17 or 18 arriving in September and the remainder arriving by September 2016.

There is a slight bit of incorrect info in that article. The OH-58Ds have been divested but the lineage of 6-17 will live on but not at Ft Wainwright

My nephew is being transferred into that unit when they arrive. He's currently in the one being retired.
