So my wife and I will be PCS'ing to Eglin AFB, FL next winter after basic and such for EOD training.

I have noticed a lot of GI's going the U-Haul route VS Army shipping shit. We will have only one car and enough shit to fill a 16' Uhaul. Does it pay to drive or just easier for them to haul your shit?

She will be an E4 (specialist out of basic) if that matters.

We typically tow/haul the stuff we want to use along the way (ATV or motorcycle.... Or vacation clothes; we typically take a vacation as part of our pcs move).  The Army does a pretty good job of moving your gear.  My wife is a nut about packing nesting gear, to assist with getting the next home set up before primary house hold goods arrive.  Id recommend bringing enough kit to survive in your new home before household goods arrive.  FL is a long way from AK.  I could not make that move (permenantly).

Congrats on that Sig and the missus.  Considering she has a degree, why isn't the missus trying to go as an officer?

Guess we'll need to do a lot of shooting and a bbq this summer once I get feeling better.

No kids, just dogs. One of which has made the drive twice already with us.

Will only have U-haul and our little ford Escape on a trailer so no camper. I have made the trip 4 times under 48 hours border to border so I'm not worried about accommodations til we hit the USA again.(hate giving canada my money)

Make sure you have your shit together ammo wise when you head south. Have it accessible for inspection and remember the Canadians count every primer as a cartridge if your taking any boxed primers. If memory serves me right NO METAL CORE 855 ball 5.56 stuff, they consider it "Armor Piercing" Good luck on your travels.

Until that day,
Darkop
