I'd gladly drop GCI when the right company comes along and provides comparable service at a reasonable price. Looking at the Ice site, the prices have to drop a lot before they'll be in the ball park of ACS and GCI. With the hook to the network, per unit and monthly fees it gets expensive fast compared to my current service at about $60.00 a month. Granted with wireless it would be much more useful around town but it's not something I currently have or miss. How good is the Ice coverage around Juneau right now? I live and work in Lemon Creek. Last I heard it was only available in downtown!

Actually,, those prices aren't right anymore,, just haven't updated the page in a while. We have 4 sites up... but not in Lemon Creek yet.. Lena Pt, KTOO downtown, The Rockdump, and Outer Pt. If you're close to the highway, we'll be able to reach you soon.. but if you're way back in there, we probably will never get there. Just depends on what's in the way. Seriously though,,,, if you don't need mobility, there isn't a huge reason to switch. EXCEPT for the fact that a lot of people come to us because of the level of service we provide. Simply, the best there is.
We got one customer because they called for DSL and they were told it would be a couple weeks at best.. they called us and we had them up and running two hours later. But heck,, all this has nothing to do with guns!!! Look forward to meeting you and blasting some rounds down range.

How's it going, I'm Steve. I live out in the valley, I'm 19 and as of now I'm unemployed. I'm buying a DPMS AR15 in a matter of weeks.

Whoa! Let me get this straight - you are unemployed and NOW?!?! you are going to buy a new rifle? Most people do it the other way around. I like your moxy, Steve!

Hey, the valley sure is growing fast, ain't it?

The Valley is growing TOO fast. I bought my house for 120K 3 years ago, and my real estate agent cousin said it would bring 165-170K right now.

The forest down the road is another high end subdivision.

Damn! 19 and unemployed. I swung a hammer for several summers. It is good work if you are working for a good builder, a living hell if you are not. :) I take it you had a good summer!

AK_Mike, Lol, Thanks. Yeah I worked with my father over the summer doing carpentry work, + the dividend will be here soon, and in spring I'm going into Forestry. Most of my family's been in, or is still in Forestry.
The Valley sure is growing rapidly, I remember when I used to know everyone in this town. Now, I don't even know half the people!

BTW, I assume most of you here have now heard about CC being legal in AK, without the need for a permit (except for Anch)... As well as the Marijuana law (again, except for Anch)?

Hey Hey! No permits needed for CC, liberal pot law (if that's your bag), and a free state dividend large enough to buy one or two AR's a year just for living here? Lot's of trigger time during the 24hr/day sunlight. Where else I ask you....

Edited to add, lowest tax rate in the union, no State tax or sales tax (at least in Fairbanks)

Welcome! Now get your ass back here and suffer like the rest of us! I'm enjoying really nice weather in Fairbanks at the moment, but I just left Barrow which had snow and iced over lakes...

Hello my name is Paul I'm 36, fng, married, with two daughters in Anchorage. Originaly from LA/OC, CA area. Missed CA until I went back to visit, definetly here to stay. I manage a Publix Self Storage facility and try to think of ways to convince my wife that I need more rifles.

Welcome Paul! When I was a dealer, I used to have my male customers to tell their wives that they are fair investments as firearms pretty much all go up in price over time. If she doesn't have a gun, get her one. Tell her the other guys up here tease you cause you don't have enough rifles. Do a thread search and I am sure it will turn up some good threads concerning the wife/gun issue, including ways to elude wife gun control and detection.

By the way, I have noticed in Fairbanks they can't seem to build enough public storage facilities, they are great money makers here. I myself have no home, just a bunch of storage units... I am sure soldiers are a large part of the clientele, they have to keep their stuff somewhere while they rotate through.

Easy. Forget convincing her and just don't tell her . She can't say no if you don't ask... I'll just keep them at my house for you - or in my storage room for that matter... That way you have a vested interest in letting me know when my payment is overdue . (Thanks again by the way)

I know Paul and he is one of the good guys...

:) Too funny. Being elusive with a rifle is one thing. Being elusive with money is another. Still trying to think of alternate descriptions of all those nice gunsmithing tools that I am leaning towards purchasing. I think I will try installing a door knob with a receiver wrench, I'm not sure if she will fall for it though.

I didn't even consider the tools and accessories! If you can't fool her, tell her the truth - you got the tools cause you wanted to save some money rather than having to pay someone else to do the work.

My wife and I are both retired and live on the outlet of Lower Ugashik Lake year round and don't miss the glare of streetlights in Eagle River where we lived for 18 years before moving out here. Have a 300 yd range in my back yard that opens when I open the upstairs window. Have 5 AR's including a Beowulf and am currently building a 6MMPPC AR for wolf hunting aka moose restoration.

Welcome. The 6mmPPC sounds interesting. Remember, the caribou need protection as well - someone's got to do it! I was thinking about something like the Beowulf incase I ran across Mr. Bear. Perhaps even the .458 SOCOM or 50AE. Have you tried your Beowulf out on anything yet?

Haven't punched anything but paper and steel plates with the Beowolf. Got a nice large male wolf last week with one of my CLE built AR's in 223. May be just a fluke but had been using FMJ's on wolves with bad results so switched to 60 grain Berger and it worked like a champ. Don't know how it would of worked if I had hit bone.
