I can buy a Gen 3 Glock 23 with about 500 rounds down the tube for $300, or...

A NIB Gen 4 Glock 17 OR 19 for $425.

What would hometown do?

Why?

I hate .40, so by the time I converted it to 9mm, I'd be at or above the cost of the new 9mm's.

That, and I love Gen4.

Go with the new one.

This plus one. I sold my last 40, a g27 a few months ago. Don't regret it one bit.

Do you want 9 or 40 that is the question

Not a glock fan. I would get neither and buy something else.

Get the 9mm. You'll shoot it more because 9mm is cheaper than .40, it has less recoil so it's easier to manage, and you gain a couple of more rounds with 9mm over the same sized gun in .40. For your first gun, if you're planning on carrying, the 19 will be a bit easier to carry than the 17, but you still carry 17 mags as your backup mags since they fit in the 19. Also, don't spend a bunch of money trying to improve the trigger or any other after market parts. You'll be better off spending that money on ammo or training. The only after market thing I'd buy is a set of night sights for it. Get the 9mm and don't look back.

Best deal I've ever seen on the 2014 Guns & Ammo gun of the year.

Very accurate, sweeeeet trigger, and striker fired since that seems to be your thing.

Germany makes better guns than Austria anyways....

I like my m&p but the damn sights dig into me when I do IWB with my Galco.  I am actually thinking of grabbing a px4 for a carry piece.

...What do you plan on doing with it?

Personally I've moved away from .40 in everything but my USPSA limited guns (out of necessity to make major).

Holy crap, I already have a couple 17s and 19s, but for that price I'd get another one of each. I would pass on the 23, just because I left the .40sw behind.

19. Easier to carry, yet still feels like a full size gun in the hands.

I carry my 23 a lot, just got a 22 yesterday, and for CCW at work, the 23 is as big as I can get away with with minimal printing. Outside of work, I'll carry the 22, because I don't give a shit if I print, and most of the stuff I wear outside of work allows me to conceal better anyway.

The full size is a better shooter than the compact, but you really can't go wrong with either.

I have two 19s if that tells you anything.

but I do have a 22 and I carry it like 5 days a week

The 19 is the most efficient use of space for any pistol on the market.

You can get other pistols that are the same size, but they hold fewer rounds
You can get other pistols that hold the same amount of rounds, but they're bigger

I stayed away from the G19 bandwagon for 9 years after I turned 21, but now that I've owned one for a year, I'm a believer.

Buy a G17 after you buy a G19

Still don't know what you're using it for, but if it were me, I'd buy a G17 and start shooting USPSA or IDPA. My pistol skills have improved 500%+ since starting that. Neither one will be ideal, but unless your plan on ccw'ing it, G17 for me.

I'd go with the 9mm, but that's what the majority of my handguns are. On the other hand 40 seems to always be on the shelves even during the times of panic buying.

Sorry for the slow response.

I think I'll prob go with the full sized.  Will possibly be using for work, but then i'd have to turn in my 22.

So prob just going to be buying it cuz I want another one!

I would go with the new g19. I have a Gen 4 and love it. I don't mind .40 but I only use it for camping/hiking, nightstand, or a truck handgun with my g22.

I have been carrying my 23 for 10 years every day and love it. On the other hand I love my 19 at the range.
