Just wondering who everyone here on Arfcom for the Iowa forum is leaning towards for your Caucus.

Due to personal issues, I very likely won't caucus.  But most folks I talk to seem to support Cruz over Trump.  Or Rand, to be honest.  No one I've talked to feels Rand will caucus well though.

I certainly like Rand better than his father, but I am concerned thata vote for Senator Paul helps a clearly flip-flopping Trump in the end. I posted this elsewhere in this forum:

"WE all know that Monday night is the Iowa Caucus.

I have been the Iowa Co-Chair of Sportsmen for McCain-Pailin and Romney-Ryan in the 2008 and 2012 general election cycles.

Only one campaign this cycle has built an effective state and national 2th Amendment Coalition, or even bothered to take advantage of the resources available in Iowa to help them with that segment of the voting public or consistently demonstrated total support and commitment to the 2th Amendment. Along with my friend and IFC Lobbyist Richard Rogers, we are two of five National Coalition Co-Chairs for Senator Cruz's 2th Amendment Coalition.

I am asking you to look at Senator Cruz's record as I have, compare him to the other candidates in the field and I think that you will come to the same conclusion we have, he is our man, not just on this issue, but on nearly every other.

Monday your vote matters, join me in caucusing for Ted Cruz.

Captain Dave Funk"

We need to get the most pro-gun guy a win in Iowa, please consider joing Richard and I in our support for Senator Cruz.

Trump. If he doesn't get nominated, Cruz is my second pick.

The wife and I are in for Cruz!  Trump nails the one liners that feed peoples emotions, but he has flipped on nearly every issue just in time for this election cycle.  The benefit Trump has is that he has NO voting record so we can only go by what he has said.  Everyone can change their opinion over time.  I have some different feelings about things now then I did when I was 18, but he has flipped on everything.

Actions speak louder than words.  After Sandy Hook when we faced the greatest threat towards 2nd amendment rights Cruz was right in there leading the fight against the anti's at the federal level.  Where was Trump during all of that?  Never heard a word out of him regarding the 2nd during one of our toughest times he was busy doing reality TV.

I believe anyone that wants the job and has the capability of making a successful campaign at this point is a little slimy and can't be fully trusted, but...   When it comes to the 2nd amendment there is one person that has my trust and that is Ted Cruz.  Think about that the guy has fought in the supreme court for the 2nd amendment and would most definitely appoint 2nd amendment supporting judges.

CRUZ- He is a Constitutionalist !   I don't vote completely on 2nd Amendment issues, but it is my litmus test so to speak.

Trump saying he is going to do this or that through executive order is no different that Obama doing it, even if it is something we agree with if it still usurps the Constitution then it is wrong. I don't trust Trump as I think he just wants the Presidency and is willing to do and say anything to try and get it.

I will not tell people how to vote here, but I would ask that everyone remember that one of the most important things a president does is appoint Supreme Court justices.

Sure having someone in the White House who you think will support your policy is great, but what good does passing legislation do you if the SC strikes it down along party lines.
The SC we have right now decides most issues on a 4/5 vote.  The next president will likely appoint 1-3 or more justices should they serve 2 terms.  One sometimes left leaning "moderate" justice is all they will need to reverse some of the gains we've made in the past few years on guns.

Think about that while you caucus

Don't kid yourself, Trumps negatives are so high, he will make Romney look like a great general election candidate.

No need to settle this year, Hillary, Bernie and the rest of the Dem's are terrible candidates, much like Carter, Mondale and Duakus were, we will wipe the floor with them, it's time to select a true gun guy and Trump has been all over the place on our issues.

Agreed. Enough of the east coast libs on the Republican ticket. We finally have a chance to elect an actual conservative and watch him wipe the floor with the socialists.... but instead some flee to a TV personality who has supported an AWB, government run healthcare, and forfeiting private property rights.... we truly are our own worst enemy sometimes. My county was a real shit show.  The whole county was in the convention center for both dems and republicans.  I wouldn't be too surprised if older folks who came later simply turned and went home.  When it came time for speeches there was a woman who stood up to speak for Fiorina she was in a business suit and had a piece of paper likely with remarks writen on it.  Some other guy pushed past her walked up and spoke for about 15 seconds about how we needed any one who would beat hillary and that was all that mattered.  This was after some one had made a similar call while supposedly speaking on behalf of one of the other candidates who had no chance.  I was pretty angry about that not because I care at all about fiorina but because I care about people having a voice and idiots shitting on that voice.

If it was only by precinct it wouldn't have been a huge deal but there were something like 15 precincts there.

I had the complete opposite experience.  Everyone who spoke regardless of candidate got applause before and after their speech.  Everyone was quiet and respectful during the speeches as well.  We had record turnout and were crammed in there elbows to ass holes yet there was no complaining, pushing, shoving, or anything like that.  Just a great group of people from the community that are really all on the same team and realize that.

A couple of the speakers got emotional and had tears as they simply were so thankful that so many people realize how important this election is and are concerned about the direction of our country.  One guy speaking for Rand was a veteran that really got off the topic of Rand and just thanked such a big crowd for getting involved it made him so emotional to see so many people care.  He actually left immediately after his speech he was so emotional.

Great night in my opinion.

My big take away from the results is not that Cruz won even though that is who I am supporting, but instead how close Rubio was in 3rd.  As some of these candidates drop out and they surely will soon their supporters will decide this thing and Rubio stands a good chance of picking up a lot of them.  While the big battle seems to be between Cruz and Trump, Rubio isn't out of this thing by a long shot as he will likely pick up a lot of Bush and Christie voters when they eventually drop out.

Regardless of your candidate we need to anything we can to put a pro-gun candidate in the White House. While four years of Hillary or Bern would be horrible, the repercussions of this election will echo for decades due to the pending shake up of the Supreme Court.

DO NOT lose sight of that.

i was a big bobby jindal guy...  so i was sorry to see him drop.  but...  when you aren't getting the support, it can be tough to stay in.

i like cruz plenty.  i'm not sure america is ready for him.  i'm also not sure he's ready for america.  so that's a little scary.  trump?  he's more interested in winning the presidency than being president, so while i'd suffer a trump presidency, i'm not looking forward to it.  i liked ben carson and carly as well.  rand is ok and i liked him just fine, but for some reason he's never been able to grab traction.  personally, i think after the kent sorenson/igo/aaron dorr debacle and jumping races four years ago that the entire paul following felt betrayed and they haven't really been energized since.  i don't blame them either.  they got the shaft...  bush and christie are colossal jokes.  they're the equivalent of romney and mccain - establishment toads.  so i'm glad they didn't even register worth considering.  kasich is a moderate too, so he never blew my skirt up.  i did figure huck and santorum would rate higher, but didn't.  huck is fine overall.  actually santorum i felt was a great candidate.  and actually he was my favorite from years ago, but he was so butt hurt about what happened four years back, that he didn't even bother working the state.  what kind of president would he be if he can't handle being given shaft by little ol' iowa when you're facing a few billion chinese or russians, you know?

rubio straddles the line between establishment and conservative, so i think he's a rising star and probably somebody lots of guys will toss money into later in the race.  he's the guy i'd be on the look out for...

last minute emergency kept me home last night.  but unless somebody made a passionate speech that turned me another direction, i was planning on stumping for cruz.  this is the first of these i'd planning on going to that i hadn't completely made my mind up on yet...

overall, i'm satisfied with what i saw for results.  the only one i thought would get more pull was fiorina.  she was one of the few that put forwarding serious plans on the front end when everyone else was telling us all what we wanted to hear.  she's a sharp person...

either way, 'sall good...

Went pretty smooth in Story County.  There were three precincts meeting at the church, but we stayed out of everyone's way.  Huge crowd, I'm guessing 300.  Reports from friends in town indicate much the same at the other places.  Speeches were limited to three minutes, most were from the campaigns, which is normal.  Rubio did very well here.

From my point of view, the most encouraging thing seemed to be that the turnout for Republicans seemed to be about double that of the Democrats. If that's the case, and it happens in the General Election, we'll really kick the Dems ass!

We ALL get it!  I don't think anyone here is going to vote for Hitlery or Bernie in a general election.  We had our time to debate which of the candidates we wanted to run against either of those commies now it's time to wait and see who the rest of the country gives us as a candidate.  We have a lot of good candidates this time around so while I'm for Cruz I would gladly vote for any of the Republicans in a general election.  I don't trust Trump at all with all his flipping on the issues, but would gladly vote for him in a general election.

What we don't need is another Romney.  I obviously voted for him, but the Mormon thing unfortunately kept a lot of Republicans home.  We will not have that problem this time.  Romney also played to nice we need to take the gloves off in a head to head debate with either of the commies this time around and I think any of our top 3 guys would do that.

Unfortunately while we have a good chance it still will be a huge upset for a Republican to win the general election with the way the electoral college sits right now.  The Republicans are motivated and that showed in the turnout, but unfortunately you can look at the electoral collage map and see it's going to be tough we just aren't going to win certain states no matter what.  With that said this really is a must win election for the reasons you mentioned so lets pray for that huge upset in the general election.

I will make another statement right now...Regardless of who gets in the white house I don't believe there will be any significant action to stop illegal immigration.  Yep hate to burst the Trump supporters bubble, but even if he gets in there you aren't going to get that great wall or any significant action to end illegal immigration.  It's all talk not going to happen unfortunately.  Just my guess, but we can wait and see hopefully I'm wrong.

I was told there was a record turnout for the R's in Denver where I live.

It is absolutely essential that no democrat wins the presidency. I honestly believe that if they do we can say goodbye to our gun rights and goodbye to the USA.
