There's a gun show at the Iowa State Fairgrounds 4H Building the January 23-25...who all is up for a raffle at Okoboji's off University
Avenue in Pleasant Hill and what night is your preference? I voted for Friday but may be able to attend Saturday night...our daughters dance team is dancing at Nationals that day and they don't know when during the day or night they'll be competing until later in January. ETA: Okoboji is now closed as their phone has been disconnected...see my post further down with details. ***ETA: Jethro's @ 1800 on Saturday Jan 24...tables will be reserved under the name "ARFCOM" *** |

Saturday would be better. I have beer drinking already penciled in for Friday night.

i'm leaning toward friday night, but either would be fine. kind of looking forward to this. been a long time since we did one... ;)
i wonder what i'll win at the raffle? maybe i should bring my daughter and see what SHE wins? |
Can someone enlighten me on what types of shenanigans occurs at these raffles? I wont be in for seeing a grown man in a pair of crocheted pant/shorts/overalls will I?
Accurate, your inbox is full, but will you be at the CR show this weekend?
Is this a "raffle" so I can have an excuse to tell my wife when I bring home another gun?

Last call on which night would be better before decision is made.

FYI, and not to rain on your parade but Okoboji in Pleasant Hill closed. You can drink away but you would have to do it at Legends which is located right across the street from where the Okoboji was.

i'm busy saturday night now. forgot it was my birthday. so friday night is all i can do. but don't change anything on my account. if the group wants saturday, do it. first round is on me. ;)

***UPDATE***
Well I just tried to call Okoboji and the number has been disconnected...well shit! Legends is an option but we tried one other time and between karaoke or a live band on weekends you can't hear yourself think and it's really crowded. Well since this is late notice do we want to just make a raffle rain check for the next Fairgrounds gun show? I'm real busy this week and don't have time to try and find a different place close to the Fairgrounds before this weekend...what do you guys think? |
It is on my schedule, regardless of where it is at. I don't mind somewhere else. I check the site enough, especially knowing that a new place may be on the schedule, that the late notice wouldn't have much influence on me.
Unfortunately, I kind of live under a rock and am not sure what is available in the area other than Legends. Septic seems to have a good grasp of places that may fit. Perhaps he will have something . I am not aware of any eateries of any kind in the area other than Latin King, and I've never been there to even have an idea of what type of place it is. |
Applebee's and Jethros are up by Adventureland and aren't too far from where Okoboji was.
Let's just do altoona Jethro's. I can go get the table if you give me a time.
You weren't using one of them old phones down in your basement where you hold the earpiece up to your ear and lean into the mouthpiece mounted on the wall and rattle the hangup hook to get Mary Alice's attention down at the telegraph office to have her connect you to the correct party line, were you?
'Cuz if you were..., it might be that YOU were disconnected. Quoted:

If Jethro's isn't posted, that sounds good. If it is, then I vote Applebee's.
What about Claxon's just down the road from Applebee's.
Booger needs to make the call, if Friday I will need to take some time off Friday afternoon. Sat is fine too. Just getting closer, and closer.
BOOGER make the call!!! |

Sorry guys but I have limited computer access as I have to wait for when my wife gets home and isn't using her laptop.
I drove by Jethro's and it is posted in the upper corner of their outside doors with a little sticker (it took me a while to find it and finally did after the third time looking around the entrance) that basically asks you to "refrain from carrying" so the way that I look at it there's not a huge no weapon sign in the middle of the door. As long as people aren't yelling that their carrying, or flashing everyone with their concealed carry, I feel that Jethro's is the best site as it has great food and the west side of the restaurant is a heated "outdoor" patio that is separated from the rest of the restaurant and is conducive to a larger group setting that wants to talk guns as there are no TV's on the patio...I don't think. Since the gun show gets over at 1700 on Saturday I say 1800 at Jethro's and if anyone wants to get there a little earlier that's be fine. I will call/stop by and get the tables reserved for 10-12 and if we need more we can add another table or two. I will reserve the tables under the name "ARFCOM" for on the patio. My daughter has a Nationals dance competition all day on Saturday so I might not make it by 1800. ***** Who all can make it on Saturday so I can get an "accurate" head count? ***** |
Mark me IN. make mine a +2. Mark was at Long range shoot, and his SO.
I stopped by Jethro's and they do not take reservations.
I know I set the time for 1800 (6PM for you civilians) but who ever can get there earlier please get a table for 12 on the patio with room for the potential last second deciders. Look forward to seeing everyone as soon as I can get there tomorrow night...so save a spot for me. |
Would love to make it, but it looks like something came up. You all have fun.

It was good to see a few of you who I know and it was good to meet a couple new people.I agree that next time we shouldn't wait until a gun show to do a raffle.
Had a great time and was definitely ready to talk with some likeminded folks after sitting on a SEP gymnasium bleacher from 0815 to 1830 watching 115 dance routines. But I'm very proud of our daughter and love her very much...so I wouldn't have missed it for the world!
Gun show attendance is not what it used to be and we talked about having another get together but not necessarily have to wait until a gun show weekend to have it. Sounds great to me! |
Son and I had a good time. Was good to see everyone, Yammer good to see ya again.
