So, I finally picked up some awesome kydex gear from Romp this weekend and I've been practicing mag changes with the G21SF finally.

Good news is Romp's gear works awesome and I feel really good about how quickly I can get to the mags. Bad news is one of the mags won't drop free but it's a weird quirk.

Here's the kicker: All of my mags look identical, but I've noticed that the one that I'm having problems with gets stuck if I depress the magazine release forcefully, which is what my muscle memory is making me do. If I relax the magazine release button, the mag will fall right out. Also, if I press the magazine release button slowly, the mag will drop right out. It's only if I push it hard that it seems to get stuck - it pops out a quarter to half an inch and won't fall out unless I shake the shit out of the gun or relax the magazine release button.

None of my other mags do this. Three of them came with the gun and four of them I bought new from Brownell's recently.

Is there an aftermarket mag catch or a mod I can do to the magazine that will fix this? I'm new to Glocks...

Glad you are enjoying the holsters and mag pouch Spart. As far as them dropping free....first thing is I would number or mark them to see which one is the stickey one. After locating it would probably mark it as training only. I have seen bad mags from every maker out there.
I know that gen III mags do not work so well it at all in gen IV guns. I am not a 45acp guy so bear with me, not positive if the SF and regular 21 take the same mags. the gen IV mags have a silver metal plate visible on the front.
I would check and make sure they are all gen IV.

Do you own a belt sander?

The mags all appear to be gen 4, with the notch for the ambi mag release.

My G21 is a Gen 3 G21SF.

I have an orbital sander, no belt sander.

Good news, you still might be able to knock those hairs off your chin with the orbital sander.

What's a mag change?

When my Shit goes click, I do a gun change.

Sure having 5 sigs on my belt is heavy, but that's how true Operators roll

It isn't the ambi mag release model with the pic rail is it? I had one and Glock replaced the frame free of charge.

I wanna chime in and say that I run Romper kydex for competition and training. It's by far my favorite gear, and I'm about due for some 1911 stuff. Not trying to change the subject, but I was pumped to hear someone else enjoying Romp's gear.

Nope, standard Gen 3 model with universal rail.

I really doubt it's the frame/mag catch but who knows. I find it really odd that one magazine is getting stuck until I LET UP on the mag release, and that if I push the release very slowly, the mag drops free like nothing's wrong.

Have you checked the mag release cut out on the problem mag compared to the others?

I've looked at it closely and I can't tell a diff.

I'm considering the Vickers mag release, I was thinking about getting one anyway and they're cheap.

Run this test.
Press the mag release in hard like you normally would, then slowly let out.
when let out does the mag drop free?
If it doesn't drop free when let out, slowly gently pull the mag out and watch to see if the mag release was stuck partially activated.

What may be going on is that the side away from the mag release notch is hanging up on the side of the mag when activated more than needs be.
I know this can happen with 1911's some times, but I've never heard of it happening with a glock, although it would make sense that this is more likely with the ambi cut of the new Gen4 mags.

Good Luck

When you press in firmly it drops about a half inch or so. When you let up slowly, at some point the mag drops as if nothing is wrong.

If you press the mag release slowly without pushing it all the way, it will drop as if nothing is wrong.

I also tend to think that it's something to do with the ambi cut on the gen 4 mags.
