There is also a shotgun only/clay only club in Rapids City or Port Byron, but i've never been there.

If I missed anything, let me know!

Used to be a place in Muscatine to shoot in the sand pits, dunno if it is still open or not, been about 15 years since Ive been down there.

Easiest way is to take 67 through LeClaire and head north about 6-7 miles, you will see the sign on your right on a gravel road right past some really rich farmer's mansion and nice big barns.

There's a 10-lane indoor handgun range in Marshalltown, right under the Center Street viaduct by the Old Timer Tavern. Most people in town don't even know it exists. Costs $40 a year and with your passkey, you can go anytime, day or night, 365.  Just a 50-ft. range but it's good for handgunners.

I don't live super closeby, but I do have a membership. If anyone wants to blast a few rounds, send me an IM.

Wow, that has been there for quite a while, hasn't it?  I remember going there back in the 80s. Not the safest range in the world, either. If it's the same type of folks that went there when I was younger, you gotta really watch your back and make sure nobody's gonna shoot when everyone else goes downrange to set up targets.

There is a DLNR guy there on busy days that will write you up for leaving milk jugs and things out there, but it still looks like a garbage dump.  Unsafe doesnt describe it, shooting there is a step up from Russian Roulette.

I'll be in Iowa City this Thursday-Saturday. Can anyone get a little more specific about the range north of there? I'll likely be shooting Thursday or Friday after 5pm. Any problems with that.

Update on the Tama/Toledo area gun range. I went there today to see if I could find it. the white fence previously mentioned as a marker is no longer there due to the 4 lane bypass being built. on HWY30 about 2 miles west of the Hwy 63/hwy 30 intersection. about 1 mile east of meskwaki casino at the top of the hill (if youre coming the other way). you turn NORTH on "H" ave. its about 1/2 mile up the gravel road on the right. the "IKES TRACT" sign is not hard to find if youre looking for it.

Anybody know what is going on with the Bays Branch range?  Last I was there (1-2 weeks ago) the 200 and 300 yard benches were gone and the grass behind the 100 yard bench hadn't been mowed...???

I am looking for a (rifle/handgun and skeet) range near the north side of Des Moines.  I will join a club if there is something local.  I've paid the hourly fees and they are getting steep for a half day of shooting.  Any ideas?

To get to the Matsell's bridge range, use 3752 Matsell Park Road, Central City, IA as your go to address in google maps.

For those wanting to know where the free range is north of Coralville, use 2200 Amana Rd NW (also called County Rd F20) Swisher, IA in your go to address.

This will get you driving directions to both.

They have cleaned up the Banner shooting range quite a bit.  It has a nice covered area for both handguns and long guns.  They got rid of the concrete culverts and they have a range house you can purchase odds and ends you might have forgotten.  Not sure how much longer they are offering the special but LEO and Military can use the range at a discounted price.  It is a DNR range but they contract out the management.  I have attached a link below;

I used to be a member of the Clarke County Rifle and Pistol Club in Osceola, shot IPSC matces there with DAPS (Des Moines Area Practical Shooters).

I'm now a member of the Madison County Sprotsmens Club in Winterset. Very nice range facilities for only $35/year.

I am new to Iowa, so I am not 100 percent sure about locations/counties etc. Is there anything near Decorah? The only thing i have found is Chase the Adventure Hunt club.
Is anyone familiar with this place?

Oak Hill in Blue Grass Iowa has a nice covered rifle range, clean, concrete benchs, 25/50/100/200 yards... and its down in a valley so there is minimal wind.

Bonair county range. 25/50/100/200 yard range. NW outside of cresco. Its free and decent. Bring a target stand though. They just have dirt mounds to mark the yardages.  They have shooting benches picnic tables and a gazebo.

Hwy63 north turn at cresco heading east, follow hwy 9 into cresco till you see Saint Ave. about 3.5 miles, turn left heading north on gravel road 2miles till you see a large berm with a small parking area leading into the range.   I forgot to take pics today...

I just ran across a site called RangeListings.com. it has some of the ranges here in Iowa, but not all of them.

http://www.rangelistings.com/state.php?state=IA

ETA: Found a better site, with lots of listings:

http://www.wheretoshoot.org/Find_Range/index.asp

At the link you can search any state, not just Iowa, and you can also search a radius around a,zip code.

Black Hawk Park in Cedar Falls has replaced all the shooting benches. The original ones were a Eagle Scout project. Time and floods took a toll on the wood. Now the benches are set in concrete and made of synthetic decking material. They are making improvement all the time.
Each range has 6 or 8 benches , The 100 yd has 2 and the 200 yd has 1 bench. Could use more..
There is 15 yd pistol and 22 only range , 25/50/100/200 yd as well as trap, bow and arrow area.
I live 1 1/2 miles east from the range, I KNOW when it's open !
It's busy on weekends, It's FREE, Targets for sale at the park entrance. on your honor pay pipe by the target box.
 Enjoy be   SAFE

Does anyone know if the range in Colfax mentioned in this thread is still open? And if it is, some contact info?

I live in Newton and I bought my first black rifle recently and I'm looking for a place where I can shoot out to 100 yds or more. My backyard pistol range isn't cutting it for me.

There's a decent range just north of Adel that doesnt get much attention.  It's called River Valley Sportsmans Club and annual dues are a whopping $25.  The only downside is it's kind of small and the rifle range is only 100yds.  There is a nice trap setup and clubhouse however.

I did some checking and the range is not closed.  The DNR officer I talked to said that they may have been mowing and they'll close it off then, but it's not closed.

I wrote up this quick review about a range in NORTHWEST IOWA.  Basically figured I would get the info out as we have nothing else like this.

In fostoria which is between Milford and Spencer Iowa a new range opened up on friday called Apex it is part of Apex ammunition.  I have been looking forward to this for a while and had been hearing different things and waiting on them to get opened up for the range for a few weeks now.  They had a delay because of something with the target system.

I didn't have time to shoot today but I went in and had the guy working show me around.  Pictured below is bay 1 and the 'pro shop' shop is pretty small but Im not really worried about that part I was more concerned with having an indoor range.

The range has 6 stalls in bay 1 and bay 2 is finishing fabrication now and is nearly completed opening another 6 bays.  I like it because the two sections are separated so it limits the sound and the smoke etc from the other side of the bay.  The hvac system was pretty heavy duty and is being added to on monday from my understanding because they wanted it to be even more powerful.  Bay 1 still needs paint but for now there was 5 yard increments on the walls out to the 27 yard full range.  The target system is nice and is simply forward or back there is not set range amounts or a complicated system you just hold forward until it goes to where you want then stop.

I think the cost was pretty reasonable for memberships and a bit steep for day use.  Single member is 250 for the year while family of 4 is 350 with just one key fob additional fobs are 25 bucks.  I was a member of a range in colorado that had that as the member ship fee and then had dues each month as well so it really isn't that bad.  The worker said they offer a military/vet/leo discount but I didn't ask how much.  You can also pay by the day for 20 bucks which was my understanding they might have an hourly rate  but I forgot to ask.

The range was pretty nice inside and the temp control had it very comfortable with good lighting.  I was a bit let down that they do not allow you to draw from a holster as of now and I asked if it was something I could test off on or something which he said might be possible but I would have to talk to the resident trainers/owner so I will look into that.  I don't believe there was any rate of fire limitations which is a good thing.

One thing I liked was they are open from pretty early in the morning until 11 at night.  So if I get the urge to shoot at 9 at night I can head out and get a couple rounds off. I was debating heading over there because in my area we have the spring run complex which is close to me but is out doors as well as in spencer there is another range.  The big thing is I have dealt with some bad eggs in my hundreds of range trips out there over the years.  All it takes is the booze cruise guys who want to get smashed and shoot up a bunch of fruit to make it a bad time.  I like that the indoor is temp control and rain won't stop me.  I think it will be worth the money and am planning on getting a member ship in hopes that I start hitting my pistol skills a lot more.

McCunn Specialty Firearms has opened an indoor range and gun store just outside of Massena, Iowa.  25 yards, six lanes, all computer controlled with two lanes having custom programmable turning capabilities.  The lighting is phenominal, and they are open fairly long hours on the weekends.  They also have an in house part time gunsmith, and a classroom with regular Iowa Permit to Carry and NRA Pistol training.
