Here is the list of the new Instructors for the Enhanced Permit. Classes will be available soon as we were left pretty open on what we teach, each Instructor will need to make up their own class. Each class will include

South Dakota law relating to firearms and the use of force;

The basic concepts of the safe and responsible use of handguns;
Self-defense principles

Live fire training including the firing of at least ninety-eight rounds of ammunition by the student

From what I heard from other instructors the class itself will run $75-$100 for most. Then there are fees for background checks and fingerprinting that will be about another $150 and renewals every five years for $50.

It's like the regular permit but with class time and a shooting provision to add other state reciprocity. After Minnesota dropped the Utah permit (because you don't shoot for Utah) they announced that they will accept the SD Enhanced. Right now Minnesota is the only addition but the Secretary of State office is working with other states to add more reciprocity.

ETA: Nebraska would be nice.

It would be really awesome if we could get Nebraska, for now I'm pushing the SD Enhanced and AZ non resident. The certificate of completion for the SD Enhanced is good enough for AZ and with the two you get pretty good coverage.

I can vouch for Justin Hoffman, very professional and knowledgeable dude. Former Navy piracy interdiction, great tactical and USPSA shooter. He is going to start doing enhanced classes very soon in the Aberdeen area and other places in the North East quarter of the state.

The three of us from Canton are joining up to do a class on the 24th at the old train depot. Class starts at 8:00 and should be done around noon, then 100 rounds at the range just outside of town.

Any / All instructors for the enhanced permit are encouraged to post links/details here on taking the class and getting the permit.

Well, I was going to have some guys from work over tomorrow (Sunday) for a quick class. But they all bailed on me.

A little short notice but if 2-5 guys want to get the class out of the way and shoot a little bit tomorrow is probably going to be the last nice day for a while.

Let me know, I can do one about any time.

I emailed Shantel Krebs a few days ago and she was hopeful that Nebraska and Wisconsin would be added by the end of the year. I hope that is the case.

After I took the class I went down the next day to the Sheriff's Office for prints.
That took about 45 minutes (there is only one print station) a check for 25 bucks to the SO and a separate check to DCI for $43.25

8 days later I received a call from the SO and went down and paid the $100 and got the temp paper permit.

So it cost me:
$ 253.25 + ~$25 in ammo = $278.75

varies by county I think. Here it's 12.50 per card and there are two cards.
The 43 bucks to DCI is for processing.
More forms to fill out, entries to make and an extra query or two over the regular permit I imagine.

The renewal is $50 every five years no retest or anything.

The class is just a couple hours, depending on class size or instructor it may be longer. If everyone has some common sense it doesn't take long.
