Hi Folks,

Tarheel here.  Looking forward to coming to your part of the country for the first time.  I am deer  hunting outside of Chadron NE, flying into Rapid city.

Is there any transportation to get from Rapid City down to NE, or is renting a car the only option.  Thinking about going early/ staying late to see some of the area.  An recommendations?   It will be November, so I suspect pretty cold.

Renting a car is going to be your only option. If you stay in the hills, November can be pretty mild compared to the rest of the area. If you do sightsee, I recommend taking the Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park. No tourists to bother you.

So it looks like my plan is working out somewhat like this:

Wed

Arrive Rapid City around 1:00 PM
Go to Mt Rushmore
Stay in Keystone

Thursday

Do the custer park stuff
Stay in Keystone

Friday
Badlands, maybe minuteman museum.
Head to Gordon, NE get there by 6:00 PM

Questions:

What is the best route through Badlands?
Getting from Badlands to Gordon
Google show me going through Pine Ridge reservation   Google map

It looks like part of s is dirt road, so I am not sure if this is advisable, any recommendations?
Also, I will have my rifles and a concealed carry, is this allowed on the reservation?

Thanks

You're g2g with guns on the res. Pine ridge just may be one of the shittiest places in America, you'll be fine driving through though. It's an alcoholic cesspool of failure and crime.

Some barren ass landscape you are going to cross, OP. Make sure you have some winter survival supplies with you. It is no joke out there.
