Well I'm getting burnt out on work and want to spend some time with my kids before they go back to school so I'm looking for some good places to go camping! We love to hike and go on walks but mostly we enjoy time with each other. I live in Fort Yates and I'm looking for something that is not crowded has things to show and educate my kids. We will be tent camping but willing to do a cabin that is if the weather here stays as hot as it has! I'm willing to drive 4 hours so that would allow me to go to the Blackhills or any other places.

Hell I'm willing to stay at a hotel as long as there are things to do near were we are at. Next year I'm buying another RV! I need this R&R after being away from my family for 51 weeks last year I need some make up time bad with all of them! Thanks for the help!!

I wish I had some suggestions in your mileage range.
We go to the BWCA in Northern Minnesota.

Strawberry lake in the Turtle Mountains. Can also visit Lake Metigoshe while in the area.

Enemy Swim Lake. Don't spread it around. Actually, tell whoever you want. The whole area is full of big clear lakes. Check it out.
I sure wish it would rain.

Breien, ND

I once camped out here overnight. It was a great spot. The town had put together kind of a town park out by the main highway (which is not very well-travelled) and they allow camping there.

Quiet, peaceful, nobody bothered me. For hiking nearby, you could follow the old railroad right-of-way. It's really easy to find as there are small thickets of trees that have grown up on either side, but where the tracks were are largely devoid of them. The right-of-way runs right through the park/campground.

Or else you could go hiking along the Cannonball River or Dogtooth Creek
