THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I accepted a job at the reservation at Stainding Rock. I'm hoping to find housing in Lemmon, SD or maybe Mobridge (open to ND but SD has no income tax).

I'm guessing gun laws are fairly good in the area of either state. How's the hunting out that way? FIshing? I imagine it's pretty damn good too.

I'm just hoping to get a heads up on any info anyone is willing to pass on or any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

And it is Standing Rock
It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived. - General George S. Patton, Jr

Standing Rock=watch your back. My understanding is that things can get a little rough there.

If your plan is to live in Mobridge, get ready for a culture shock. I remember reading something awhile back about how Mobridge is one of the furthest places away from a Wal Mart store and a McDonald's restaurant in the Lower 48. Mobridge is a stopoff on one of my favorite drives, but there's not a whole lot for which to stop off.

That is exactly why we live here. We are one hundred miles from Bismark, Aberdeen, and Pierre, if you need a Wall Mart drive for an hour and a half. As far as nothing to stop for, you couldn't be more wrong. We have Pheasant, Grouse, Deer, and Antelope all over and Lake Oahe is one of the finest fisheries in the world, I just came back from the ice shack about an hour ago. Our rifle and pistol club has what I consider the finest range in the state, with steel silouettes from 50 yards to 1000 yards. The golf course is very nice and there is also a trap club if you are a shotgun guy. As far as culture shock, we actually have running water and cars here. MA_USN, message me if you need more details and I'll see if I can help you out.

Hey I really appreciate that GUTS! I'm from Miami originally and could use the small town enviroment as I'm more than done with city life.

I still have some time before I head out that way, but that gun club sounds awesome! What are the chances of find a rental out there? I'm open to buying, but I'd like to rent first while looking for an ideal home.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I'm right on this point. When I've been through Mobridge, it was the middle of summer. All of the wild game you mention is out of season IIRC. Though I wasn't aware of this massive shooting range you reference, I'm pretty hit or miss (pardon the pun) with shooting at an organized range; sometimes I'm into it, but usually I'd rather go more au naturel and shoot in the woods or on some empty field. The steel silouettes sound cool though.

I don't golf.

On second thought, a range the sort you describe would be nice. Pop-up steel targets, yeah, always wanted to do those.

It's not as bad as people make it to be! Been working the Rez for almost a year and a half as LEO. I like Mobridge wish I could find a place to rent down there so far no luck! Really don't care about walmart or McCraphole when you get here go to Mobridge Meats and try the meat there jerky is like drugs there ground beef that has so little fat in it that you don't drain it off when cooking. They do have a Burger King and a Dairy Queen in town I only eat at DQ. Banks there is a Wells Fargo the other bank in town not worth talking to.

Yes you have to drive far to get to places but all that you need you can get in Mobridge at Alco and the other stores. MA_USN remember I told you dress your best first day when you show up! Think we talked on policeone.

Haha I will, I don't have a suit, but I got some nice dress slacks with a dress shirt and tie that should hopefully work.

I'm going to call the Chief tommorow and ask some quesions, just been running around and tieing up loose ends.

I know of a few rentals in Mobridge in your interested, I made contact with someone who has been keeping me posted pretty consistently.

How's AT&T out there?

K T's Fireside and Mobridge meats... what more could a person need?

Seriously, the hunting on the Rez is pretty good if you know where you are.
