I walked & stalked in western Ontonagon county for the first two days of season. Dry noisy leaves this morning (11-17) made me stay on my stand. At 10:40 a buck came stepping into range.  One shot from above on a ridge, in the top left shoulder, through the heart & out the lower right shoulder.

When a 150gr Nosler ballistic tip through the heart ain't enough I guess you drowned them. He piled up with a big splash in the Mineral river.

120-130lb 8pt, 11"-12" inside. Probably 2.5yrs old.
Update: scale at the Kontika showed 135lbs. I pulled 3-5lbs of fat out of the cavity.

I shot a 1.5 year old spike with a good sized body on opening day.  Cut and packaged that night.  Saw another deer opening morning early, but it had its head down, quartering away, and I couldn't tell if it was a buck or doe.  Didn't see it in the next firelane.

I took a big doe during bow season and as usual haven't seen anything but birds since gun season started.

Nice rifle.  I've hunted with a Rem. 700 LH in .308 for many years.

Archery season: large 7 point and a doe
Firearm season: 9 point

I'll fill some doe tags during the late antler less season.

Got a average sized doe Wednesday morning just at legal light from about 10 yards.

Only 2 other deer taken in our camp, a big mature doe and 4pt out of the 5 guys.

Saw a bunch of small bucks during archery season and passed on them. Seeing more doe's than anything else during the gun season. Had a small 3 pointer about 70 yards away on the 16th but he was pretty scrawny.
Farm country, go figure how they can seem so small. He was feeding and didn't really seem interested in the rut.
A doe came out behind him 20 minutes later that looked bigger than he did.
I'll be out again tonight. Maybe they'll give up their nocturnal behavior.

Decided to try somewhere else this morning, came in with 7 others, she was the biggest.  Got her running at about 60 yards with the 77/44.  DRT.  Love this rifle.

There was a doe with the group that I thought was a coyote at first, but turned out just a really small deer, no spots.  No more than 50lbs I'd guess.

I've got 4 tags and haven't seen a single deer I could take a shot on. It's like I have an anti-deer force field. I had crop permits this summer, does only, and had bucks walk within 10 ft.

Edit: The local asshole that's been tresspassing and fucking with blinds? Every county has one. Two DNR  trucks in his driveway right now.
