I am planning on spending a week in the UP at a variety of different locations and I plan on bringing one of my pistols.

Are there any areas that I'm not aware of that I cannot bring a firearm?  i.e. certain cities, parks, etc?

We also may be camping outdoors.  The largest caliber I own is my Remington R1 1911 .45 ... is that powerful enough to defend us with against bears or any of the sort?

MI has state preemption for firearms laws. You can carry in all of the same places you can in the lower peninsula. Double check the laws if you're going to any national lakeshores or forests.

The Soo Locks are Federal Property and are a NO-GO for CCW.

Bears shouldn't be a worry.  Typically they will try to avoid humans but may raid a campsite if left unattended.

Don't shoot first ask questions later as the DNR isn't always sympathetic in those situations.

The park by the channel in The soo is govt property too and also a no-go for carry.  It's not secured so it simply appears a park.

Carry on Indian Reservations (restaurants, gas stations, etc) is generally a no go, carry through an Indian Reservation on a public roadway without stopping is a gray area.
