The Ann Arbor School Board is slated to vote tonight on a new policy that would essentially prohibit "dangerous weapons" on school property. This means that firearms would not be allowed on AAPS property; therefore, violating the state's preemption law. The school board president has already acknowledged the possibility of a lawsuit against them if they vote and pass the new policy. Let's hope this doesn't get passed tonight.

Why not? If they pass it, they'll get sued, and when they get sued, the board members who voted for it will possibly lose their jobs because it ended up costing the school money.

I really can't see anything wrong with letting idiots lose their money and their jobs.

Other than stirring up a bunch of emotional BS..I agree.

Probably only symbolic on their part.

Hence why the school board has already acknowledged the possibility of a lawsuit against them if they do anything to regulate firearms around their schools.

I believe they want a lawsuit.  If enough shit gets stirred, they are banking on the legislature stepping in and banning all firearms, with no exceptions (except for police that is).  It's all emotional BS on their part.  Nothing based on facts or data.

Michigan Gun Owners, Inc (MGO) has filed suit against Ann Arbor Public Schools (AAPS).

This lawsuit comes on the heels of AAPS enacting policies 5400, 5410, and 5420. Policy 5400 allows the Superintendent to close schools an cancel events if there is an emergency. It specifically states the presence of a dangerous weapon, which includes a pistol, is an emergency. Policy 5410 designates all Ann Arbor School's property as " Dangerous Weapon & Disruption-Free Zones". It also mandates that the Superintendent enforce these policies. Policy 5420 states that no person in possession of a dangerous weapon will be allowed to be on Ann Arbor Public School Property. Michigan Gun Owners is seeking a declaratory judgement against AAPS from promulgating and enforcing any policy that is preempted by state law.
