I've never been to Detroit (or Mich) but have been a die hard Red Wing fan for 30 years. I am finally going this weekend to see them play in the Joe as I understand they will be in a new arena next year and always wanted to see the play in the Joe. So Friday night is a game and Sunday night is a game but other than that a friend and I are looking to waste some time seeing as much as we can. We will be going to the Henry Ford Museum as we are both old car guys. Any tips on where to eat near the Joe (we are staying in the same area) that is too good to pass up?

Here's my biggest db question...is the "Hardcore Pawn" shop worth going to? We will have a rental car.

Yes it was. We tried to go to Slows but they were packed. We ate at the place across Michigan Ave from it and it was excellent as well.

On the plane going back to Nevada now. Just wanted to say your state and esp Detroit gets a bad rap from news coverage and general perception from people talking trash but never having visited there. We stayed downtown and everyone we met was overly friendly...even 2 homeless guys we met while we were taking pics of Tiger Stadium Sunday morning. They never asked us for a dime and just wanted to talk...both me and my buddy have never met homeless guys who weren't pushy and rude asking for money....we handed them $20 because of it. It was awesome to see neon in windows with saying like "nothing stops Detroit" and the such...nice to see some people have a fighting spirit and love their hometown. I will visit my adopted hometown of Detroit again.
