3-GUN WILL BE BACK FOR 2014!

Sunday, March 16 @ South Kent Sportsman's Club in Dorr, MI

As we sit buried under the snow and ice the shooting season seems so far away but, it is approaching fast. I have spent my spare time working on plans for this season and there will be some changes for this year.

First, after a lot of thought and discussions, we will not be continuing our affiliation with the 3-Gun Nation: Club Series. Some of you may not like this, others may welcome it and some of you may be indifferent to the change as long as you know which rules to follow. We will be joining USPSA Multi-Gun for the 2014 season. We are already a USPSA affiliated club and have been hosting USPSA pistol matches for quite some time now. Even in light of the changes that 3GN has made for the upcoming season, we believe this is the best decision for the the direction we would like to take both the club and the 3-gun program.

What does this change for you as competitors?  Very little. The safety, procedural and equipment rules are essentially the same, just different wording.  More changes for us on the administration end than does for you as competitors.  USPSA Multi-gun rules do allow us to continue using the "Time-Plus" scoring.

There are some slight changes for the divisions:

Open Division: Same as 3GN Open Division. No Changes

Tactical Division: Same as 3GN Tactical Optics. Single magnified optic on the rifle only. Iron sights on pistol and Shotguns

Tactical Limited: Same as 3GN Tactical Irons. Iron sights or non-magnified (red dot) sight on rifle only.  Iron sights only on pistols and shotguns.

Heavy Metal Tactical: Same sight restrictions as Tactical Division.  .40 cal./10mm or larger for pistols limited to 10 rounds. .308 cal. or larger rifles limited to 20 rounds. 12ga shotgun, autoloading shotguns permitted.

Heavy Metal Limited: Same sight restrictions as Tactical Limited.  .40cal./10mm or larger pistols limited to 10 rounds.  12ga pump action shotguns only.

Legally owned rifle suppressors are specifically allowed in all divisions and are not subject to the compensator/muzzle brake size restriction.

Also, with USPSA we will be able to post all match scores on the USPSA match results page and in most cases will be posted within hours of the end of the match.

I am anxious to see what this seaon will bring.  I have had a few ideas brewing over the winter and have been trying to develope them into something useful.  I will post updated info as we get closer and I welcome suggestions.

good news.

Hopefully the snow is well melted by then.  I was down there last week and the only range I could get on was the 100m.

I have had a few questions from our members here at LGC. Will you be casing all of the long guns and make them bring them up to the line on every stage  like you guys did last year? I would like to give them an answer
Thanks and good luck,
John

I am working on getting enough rifle/shotgun racks so that they won't have to case them up for every stage. Chamber flags will be MANDATORY this year. Going to try to have tables/racks for pre-loading shotguns. I have been swamped at work for the last several weeks and really haven't had a lot of spare time to work on things. It's settling down so I will have time to start things on the weekends. I haven't even driven by the club in nearly 2 months and it's only 3 miles away. I will keep everyone posted.

A few questions since there is no information listed anywhere on the SKSC website:

As SKSC is a private club, is this event open to the public? (without member invitation/escort)

What are the costs of these matches?

How long do these matches usually last?

What gear (aside from ear and eye pro) is required?

Is there an age limit?

Is there any restrictions on caliber/type of firearms used? (outside of the previously stated Heavy Metal divisions)

1. It was last year, and every other event there is.
2. If I recall it was between $10-20 last year, may be subject to change.
3. We started shooting at nine (earliest the club will allow) and usually went to 12-1pm ish.
4. Rifle, shotgun, pistol, holster, mags. I used cases last year and pants pockets to hold mags. This year chamber flags are mandatory though.
5. Don't know
6. Don't know  but this may be helpful Uspsa multigun rules

Patriot is the man, I'm just trying to spread info.

South Kent is a private club but, matches are open to the public.
$20 for non-SKSC members, $15 for SKSC members
I will be starting sign-in at about 9am for the first few matches shooting start around 10am. They usually last until about 1-2pm.
Eyes & ears, chamber flags for the long guns, a secure strong side holster and a way to carry spare mags/ammo on you to complete a stage(pockets are OK).
No set age limit. Must be able to safely handle firearms and, if under 18, be accompanied by parent/guardian.
Minimum caliber 5.56 NATO/5.45x39 for rifle, 9mm for pistol, 20ga shotgun #7.5 or smaller shot size (lead only). No steel core/armor piercing/tracer/incendiary ammo.

Thanks DB0351 and PatriotMRD for answering those questions for me and anyone else who would be new to the 3gun stuff.

Due to the higher than usual snowfall and below normal temperatures, I regret to inform you all that I have been forced to cancel the 3-gun match for March 16 at SKSC. Our match bays are currently under 2-3 feet of snow and ice. The long range forecast is for below normal temps for the next several weeks. Bringing in the equipment needed to clear the roadway and bays is just not practical or financially feasible. I will keep everyone up to date on the match for April.

Any word on an April match? The SKSC calendar shows the match on Easter Sunday.

Sunday, April 20

Registration will be from 8:00 to 9:00am. Shooters meeting at 9:15am with shooting to begin immediately afterward. I'm planning on 5-6 stages. I don't have a round count estimate. I am going to try to keep it around 100 each for Rifle/Pistol and <50 for shotgun. I am still working on the designs. Set up will be on Saturday, April 19 immediately after the USPSA Handgun match (around 1:00-1:30 until finished). Help for set up is always needed.

We will be trying some different things this month.  We are going to try pre-loading shotguns on the stages that will require them. Next weekend, I will be building some more racks for the rifles and shotguns. If you don't have a shooting cart equipped with gun racks you will be required to keep your long guns on the racks unless under the direction and supervision of a Range Officer. Rifles and Shotguns must be transported between stages in one of the following ways; 1.) Racked on shooting cart, muzzle down, chamber flagged  2.) slung/carried, muzzle pointed straight up.

ALL RIFLES AND SHOTGUNS MUST USE CHAMBER FLAGS! NO EXCEPTIONS! A zip-tie or short piece of rope is acceptable in place of an actual chamber flag. It just needs to show that the chamber is empty at a glance and must be actually inserted into the chamberand prevent the bolt from fully closing.

NO "gunning-up" or "de-gunning" at your vehicle. this MUST be done at one of the marked "Safe Areas" (club rules).

NO steel shot or shot larger than #7.5.

Remember, we will be runing under USPSA Multi-Gun rules.

I am having some technical difficulties getting yesterday's results posted to USPSA and Practiscore (the back up plan). Please bear with me. I will get them up as soon as I can.
