Looks like the wife will be getting her way, and a move to MI is now on the radar.

This was the only real roadblock that I had.

It is only registered as a pistol if the OAL is less than 26". If you have an approved SBR that is less than 26" OAL and you registered it as a pistol, then yes you can carry it as a truck gun.

WOW!!!! HE SIGNED IT!!! GREAT JOB EVERYONE THAT HAD A HAND IN THIS!!!!
Just received:
Thank you for contacting Governor Rick Snyder’s Office regarding SB 610. This legislation, sponsored by state Sen. Mike Green, allows for the manufacture, possession or transfer of short-barreled shotguns or rifles in compliance with federal law. An owner must also keep the federal registration for the firearm and present the registration to law enforcement when requested during transport. Governor Snyder has signed this legislation and it is now Public Act 63 of 2014.

We appreciate you taking the time to voice your concerns about this issue.

Thank you, again, for contacting Governor Rick Snyder’s Office. If I can ever be of assistance with any state government related issue in the future please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Sincerely,
Ryan Studley
Constituent Services Division
Executive Office of the Governor, Rick Snyder

That is good and bad news Looks like I will be broke for a while.

Another question...

I have some suppressors... If i just bought a new house, that is a couple miles down the road from my old house, do I have to file a Form 5630.7 with the ATF before I can start submitting Form 1's?

No they don't. Nothing is required for an in-state move for any NFA stuff. And no forms are required for silencers or AOWs, interstate or intrastate.

Think of it this way - ATF has jurisdiction when you cross state lines, not when you stay within a given state. ATF is required by law to keep the registration record as accurate as possible. They ask that file in-state changes of address, but they cannot require it of you.

Can an individual register to e-file a Form 1, or is it only Class III FFL's that can e-file a Form 1?

An individual cannot efile. It has to be a trust, LLC, or corporation. If you have a NFA trust you can efile a form 1

I have a trust, and I have suppressors in it, it's just that I've never had to do NFA paperwork on my own.  The FFL always does it.  Do you have the website where I can go register to e-file for my trust?

Yeah! It is http://www.atfonline.gov

Also, here is a great thread on how to fill out the form...
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_17/415446_Visual_guide__How_to_fill_out_a_Form_1_using_EFORMS.html

Edit: best of luck submitting your form. It was working fine for me earlier, but when I tried to use it tonight it has been crashing when I try to sign in and saying that there are server issues.

The state did not allow it.  The voters rejected it.  A federal judge forced it on Michigan.  It will be appealed.

The law was effective immediately as of noon today, March 27th, 2014. SBRs and SBSs have been legal in MI for almost 12 whole hours now

You could always set up an NFA trust. Before you submit any Form 1s or 4s, I'd make sure you fully understand the pros and cons of NFA trusts vs. individual ownership of NFA items.

Also, if you don't want to bother with finding an engraver, you can have a lower that's already been registered transferred to you. It's still $200 and the long wait, but it's already be 'made' and you don't have to bother with the engraving. Only the maker must engrave it, so buying a factory SBR lower eliminates that for you.

Get a trust formed,  set up an eForm account,  and as long as the eForm site isn't broken (It usually is),  you can process a form in less than 10 minutes from home, while drinking a beer and not wearing pants.  The eForm system is much faster than the paperwork stuff,  and because it requires no police signature or pictures,  you can do it at your own leisure.

Wait is roughly 17 weeks the last I checked.  I've still got a few pending,  but two of my eFormed toys are already in my hands.  My last (and I hopefully do mean my very last) paper form just came back on Saturday,  and I mailed that out last May.  In that time,  I've eFormed a few things and gotten them back well before that paper form happened.

Personally I see a split.  Washington recently approved SBR/SBS,  pot and gay marriage,  all in the last two years.  Their gun laws are relatively fair right now.

I don't really see what the problem is though.  Gay marriage being legal doesn't change your life one bit,  so why be so opposed to it?  The more freedoms that you grant people,  the less they will be on the offensive about screwing with what freedoms you can enjoy as well.

My first NFA transfer too 20 minutes with a $30 copy of Quicken Will Maker, and the only person I had to show my driver's license to was the notary at my bank. It was easier than buying a handgun.

The wait sucked though.
