I can't recall a better, more exciting game than this one. My dad and I were out in the garage, grilling up shish kebabs, listening to the game on the radio. We went absolutely wild during the tenth. What a heart stopper.

This has been a great game and even if the Tigers lose then I'll still be pleased with what they have done. The Bats of August are still going strong. No need to dispair. I will say though that Phil Coke REALLY fucked up tonight. This would be a tie game right now if he could have held the Yankees.

Benoit and Coke are problems in the bullpen.
Putting Benoit in against the Yankees was a recipe for disaster. I knew it as soon as I saw him coming into the game. You can't pitch a struggling pitcher in a close game and you can't put in a seriously troubled home run reliever in against the league leaders in home runs.
Two games in a row, Coke and Benoit have done this team in. |

Gotta be fucking kidding me! Fucking Boesch's bat breaks with 1 out in the 9th inning and the fucking bases loaded. Fucking bad luck right there, that would probably have scored a run if it didn't break.

This game was painful, and in more ways than one.
Darvish was having a horrible time finding the strike zone today, but the Tigers kept striking out on ball 4 and tapping soft ground balls right at Rangers infielders. And I got a sunburn watching this travesty to boot. I am worried about Miggy's ankle. I think he's going to hurt himself if he keeps playing on it. Then where will we be? |

Yeah, that was a disapointing game. I tell ya, what a rollercoaster this year has been, Good start then aweful for a bit, then just this month nice win streak to get within a 1/2 game of 1st, and now this mess for the last week...

Dave Dombrowski could have gotten Gio Gonzales from Oakland during the off season in exchange for Nick Castellanos, Drew Smyly and Jacob Turner. Dave passed.
Well, Drew Smyly is in Toledo and serving a suspension for plunking a batter. Jacob Turner lost a couple games for the Tigers before being traded to Miami for Anibal Sanchez, and Nick Castellanos is learning to play the outfield. Meanwhile, Gio Gonzales is picking up his 15th win this season for the Nationals. The bottom line here is that the Tigers' pitching staff has completely collapsed. We have Verlander and Fister who are good, and Scherzer who is decent. The bullpen has collapsed to Darrin Downs and Octavio Dotel who are the only relievers that can hold the middle innings, and Valverde (nerve wracking as he is) is the only guy who can finish a close game. Sanchez is a disaster, Porcello is hit or miss (more hit than miss, but he'll never be more than a #5 starter), Coke is a disaster, Below is hit and miss, Benoit is a disaster and Villarreal is hurt. We've got no one we can count on. And Verlander can't get any run support, so we've got that going on too. They need to revamp the entire pitching staff in the off season. Verlander, Fister, Scherzer, Dotel, Downs and Villarreal are the only guys in the bullpen that we should keep. |

I seen that the Tigers are spending more than 30 million dollars then anyone else and we're still in a fucking struggle to win this God damned Division. Now I know the pain and misery the Yankees fans have been having when their team's massive budget doesn't pay off. Unbelievable, but thank God that the White Sox decided to be humiliated by the worst team in baseball (Kansas City) and allowing the Tigers to only be a game and a half out. |

I still believe that the Tigers are going to win the division. September is going to be almost all intra division games, and the only division team that has given the Tigers any real trouble this season has completely imploded. What happens in October is anyone's guess, but I personally think that we're going to have to wait for 2013 to see a legitimate shot at the World Series. But, stranger things have happened. Last year in fact. 2006 comes to mind as well. |
