killthewabbit, aka Big John, had his lower left leg amputated yesterday due to diabetes complications. Surgery went well & all that, according to Mrs. John. This is his "get well" thread, if you will.

I've already got him Hopalong Cassidy movies, I-Hop gift certificates & dance lessons.

So chime in with whatever ya got for when he logs in later.......................

Thanks for all the well wishes so far. I'm doing pretty good.

The pain isn't too bad.....it's more like a dull ache that just won't go away.

My wife keeps me on the pain meds regimen otherwise I probably wouldn't take it.

I can still feel my toes moving if I don't look down there.

One of my HTS shooting buddies is a woman who lost her left leg below the knee following an accident. She's an Arfcommer but I don't see her here much. She's been on a prosthetic leg for some time now, and would be ad to give you any advice you needed. Want me to pass her your info or vice-versa? PM me if this sounds good to you.

Hey John, show him that awesome alternate use she found for her prosthetic leg at the first Cookeville TN HTF shoot. That was bad ass.

And the other John, will you be able to get one of those cool leaf spring style running legs now?

Prosthetics have sure come a long way in recent years. I have a guy here I work with and occasionally shoot with that has a few different prosthetic arms. His latest one is mostly carbon fiber and fully articulating fingers (if that's the correct term). It looks like a frigging terminator hand. I am kind of jealous of it.

Get well soon man.

YO!!!! How goes it hoppy? Welcome to the missing parts club.   Hope your surgery went well and you're healing up. Here's a couple tips to keep your spirits up.

1. Keep a wheelchair by your bed at night.  The whole "gatta pee" @ night deal you'll forget you're missing parts and when you jump out of bed you will fall on your face!

2. Keep it wraped or in a shrinker when you are not in the prosthetic to manage swelling/edima.

3. Be ocd on keeping liners and such clean!

Ok. Heres the +'s  of being a hopper.

preferred parking
Better seats at sporting events
easier to qualify for govt grants
built in Halloween costume
You can take parts off to:
   Beat someone
   Fit in tight spots
   Use as a shooting rest
AND MY FAV PART: TRAMUATIZING THE SHIT OUT OF LIL KIDS!

I will pass this 1 statement on that my very dear friend told me.
"There are 2 types of amputees out there.  One,  being the type that crys pitty me behind a computer. The 2nd are too busy outside living. Did I mention that I hate computers? " Forrest Luff.  Fastest AK amputee down hill skiier

Thanks for the great info, Sorefoot.

I'm definitely going to be a #2 in your description of amputees. I went almost 4 years with a painful diabetic ulcer on my heel. I wasn't able to do any outside activities. I can't wait to get back to the fresh air.

Had a scary event tonight.....I was on crutches trying to get to the toilet and started falling backwards.

The good news is that my 5'4" wife caught my 6'7" ass.

Well guys just wanted to give y'all an update.....I took my first steps on my new legs.

I did pretty well except that my balance was a little off. I had to use a walker today also.

Don't think I'll be doing any USPSA or 3-gun this year.

I am going to be at the NRA convention though.

Hmm... How to modify a walker for 3-gun...

If it's anything like recovering from spinal injuries, you'll start to think that every physical therapist is a sadist that loves their job.

...but they do seem to know how to do their job.  If nothing else, you'll want to get better, so that you can get away from those sadists.
