It's located in a republican state in the bible belt. Yet all I hear is republican bashing from the proffs and mainly the students. Do you think the majority of students will change once they get out on their own?

Most colleges are a bastion of liberalism.

Colleges like to hire profs from the highest ranked schools in the nation, most of which are Yankee or Kali liberal. So the infection perpetuates.

At any rate, liberalism is pretty much a given among the young.

"if you're not a liberal at 25, you have no heart -- if you're not a conservative by 40, you have no brain".

They don't change.  They just grow up and occupy space in Market Square.

In my experience, engineering and business school types tend to be much more rational (conservative) than their liberal arts peers.  Perhaps you are hanging out with the wrong crowd?

They're terribly progressive. My American history prof was the head if the NAACP & taught our class from Howard Zinn's book A People's History of the US, which only tells history from a minority/oppressed people's view. I blew up several times in that class. I won't sit back and hear veterans being put down. That prof brought an AWOL soldier to speak to our class. I could tell a lot more stories. That particular prof got fired. I had some other good ones too

Of course they are.  A college is basically a union of two groups of people.  One group is filled with idealistic people with immature thought processes, very few of whom have ever had a real job.

And the other group is the students.

I don't hangout with any crowd( I'm an arfcommer, remember?). I'm in a class that has students from every type of major.  The teacher is an uber-lib. and whenever he says anything anti american or political, most just laugh or agree. I would rather not piss him off by calling him out on his BS and pass the class.

I bombed that history class btw. I won't agree with any revisionist bs to get a good grade. History is my thing, & I'd take a bad grade to stand on my principles

Full time professors/instructors in colleges/universities are mainly egotistical turds that can't get a real job.  Once kids get out of school, get a job, and start getting screwed in taxes they tend to change their minds.

As said before, the engineering profs seem pretty level headed. I had a math professor originally from Poland that always shit on communism. Read parts I and II. http://www.math.utk.edu/~dydak/myWebPage/bio.php

I was photographing the new engineering building last year when I had a fun interaction with an egotistical professor. I was 5hrs into setting up the shot, lighting 2 floors at a time and taking a shot, repeat etc. I'm walking back to my camera when he's all up in the SHIT looking into the viewfinder. I told him to please not touch the camera. (If the camera moved, I'd have to start all over.)

He took this as an insult to his intelligence, then had to go on about owning a better camera than what I had anyways, etc. Basically being a passive aggressive dick.  Bottom line, I've met lots of people in my travels, and those who style themselves as the most educated are anything but.

Don't use their language.  "Progressive" sounds better than liberal/socialist/communist.  Don't let them run from what they are.

All universities seem to be liberal. Most of the professors have never worked in the private sector so their beliefs are largely unchallenged. I am sending a pretty damn conservative freshman to UTK in a couple weeks. Maybe she can even things out a little.

Were you around last year when the Engineering magazine at UT came out with its first issue?  That was my pic on the cover.  I'm on a different computer or I'd show you the interiors.

This was written by a UTK law professor: http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2014/03/02/second-amendment-nra-constitution-right-arms-column/5945541/

It is a very pro-gun article. So I'd say there are at least some conservative professors there.
