THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT I'm not a big aircraft buff, but it was an absolutely breathtaking sight. I wish I had a camera with me. |

A buddy of mine told me there was something B-17 related going on at Halls this weekend.
Did they change the date on the airshow? |

I'm sure TGO is running amok with conspiracy rumors of a new domestic plot to take away their rights.

Wings Over Halls. It was a great show. There was the B17, a B-25, 2 P-40s, & 2 P-51 Mustangs. I swear if I ever win the Powerball, I'm getting a P-51!

P-51's were dirt cheap when they were surplused out and for a good while after that. In the mid-1970's, I saw one for sale with a $100,000 price tag, and the prices have just gotten ridiculous since then. Last time I checked, bomber prices weren't anywhere near as bad as P-51 prices, but fuel and maintenance would cost a fortune. A Douglas A-26 would be fun, though. |

One of my coworkers paid $1,500 for a ride in a Mustang there at Halls. They went up for about 40 minutes. He has an awesome pic of them rolling in on an unsuspecting T-6 Texan that was flying around. He said it was the most fun 40 minutes of his life. He also had a pic of two P-47D thunderbolts flying in formation. They were wearing the same squadron designation and paint scheme "Hun Hunter".

I hate that I missed it. I need to get down there to see the museum, too.
I did get to see the B-17 making its return trip Sunday evening. Much further away and higher altitude, but still impressive. |

I wanted to ride in the B17 that came to the Beech River airport last year. $600 for me and my stepson was more than I could justify.

You may want to see it while you can. Sony, who ran the muesum died last year. He was a good friend of mine. Not sure if they can keep it open without him...... He and his wife ran the airshow when it was huge. They finially just burnt out, said they could not get much help, and just let it die.

I think I remember you posting something about that, but didn't put two and two together. He died after taking delivery of a helicopter for the museum, as I recall. Thanks for the heads up. |
